i'm working with a huge document in indesign--i need to superscript the references. i'm guessing nested styles--but some of the references are in the middle of sentences and i'm not the best at nested styles. how? i know there is an easy way to do this. help a sister out?

i already know how to do character styles and shortcuts for that--looking for something that would apply to all selected text if possible.

use nested styles. search indesign help for nested styles. under the paragraph styles tab, go to style options, then drop caps and nested styles.
hope that helps. but basically nested styles pick up after X. whatever X is, is up to you.

yeah, i did that--basically i just don't know how to apply for multiple sentences and how to make the superscripts mid sentence.

you could put an em or en space before and after the section you want and apply your nested style.

i've figured out that
[none] through 1 .
superscript through 1 digitswill do a superscript for the first sentence...but then nothing thereafter. can you tell me the actual things to put in the fields?

Sounds like its because InDesign is looking for 1, like you told it to. Therefore, 2 - whatever isn't following suit. You could use a different symbol like a bullet or £ (alt 3) and then find / replace £ for .
Catch my drift?

[none] means you don't have a nested style selected yet.
you need to create you character style then nest that character style within your paragraph style.
So, when you go to you paragraph style select drop caps and nested styles> click new nested style > click [none] select your superscript character style that you made. > designate through or up to > words, setences, or periods, to tell indesign when to stop your nested style.
easier for me to do than explain...
