I loved it. Such a sad story. The soundtrack is one of the best I've heard in a long time.

agreed canuck. book is better. the side stories of the narrator really make it a good read. but the ost is fawesome.

The film is beautiful, shot well. However, seems to be an over-romanticed story of a mentally ill young man who retreats into the wilderness to commit suicide.

Guess I'll have to check this one out now.

Whenever I hear about "Into the Wild," I think about this...
- A man lived alone in a cabin he built by himself, without power tools, for 35 years.JackRyan

He didn't commit suicide (according to the film) and I don't know where you got the impression that he's mentally ill either.
He didn't want or crave the pursuit of material possessions and he wanted to experience life outside of all the fluff, bullshit and external forces of modern existence.
It's a perspective that I admire.

I really enjoyed it. It's intelligent, his story is thought provoking, it's well acted, emotive and fantastically shot. A film like this is never meant to be a blockbuster that appeals to the masses - it just wouldn't suit the script.
