Lets say you have a footer that your using in a ton of comps... can you have the footer psd linked to a file so you only have to change it once and all the photoshop psd's when opened display the new footer?
Is this possible yet with photoshop?

layer comps?

no layer comps are for displaying different views with one photoshop document.

i think this is only possible in inDesign.

The thing with smart objects, is that it only serves a purpose for one document not numerous psd's
- i think if the psds are all within the same folder as the original smart object, then it will pull it into each psd. make sense?lvl_13
- mmmm, yeah, true. That's won't workflashbender

you can save it out as a psb, and update that, but you'd have to update each psd file individually

you can always use the scripting engine too... scripting photoshop can be super rad.

just tried a test, and the smart object thing doesn't work. for some reason i thought it saved out a seprate smart object temp file...but no luck.
looks like inDesign is the only way to go...unless mark can prove me wrong.

Ya the smart object psb file is a temp, it wont allow for a local copy to be used.

use the Place in the File menu
Then, you select the layer and right click > replace content

That function would be a nice add-on...
