Dinky has space.

UES never has any space in its Yorkville apts. Better off finding something pre-war north of Columbia.
I've been on 150th for a few years and it's fine.

I'd recommend Washington Heights and Inwood. Up around 180th street, still affordable.
Or Queens.- def Queens or The Bronx for cheap if you want to be off the island. Williamsburg is dead to me.DoubleKing
- I am interested in queens. Wouldn't mind brooklyn, but it seems everyone and their mother is moving there now
TheDrago - If you have an eye for Queens than look no further than Astoria.DoubleKing

spanish harlem is coming up now, see a lot more white people walking around now in just 2 yrs. I'm at 105th.

for cheap 2 bedrooms go out to greenpoint or bushwick or somewhere out there.

the price is right in Hoboken or Jersey City. And there's a glut of white people
- yeah but it's jersey city...doesnotexist
- not looking in jersey, but the price is good out thereTheDrago
- ha. i tried counting to 5 before somebody came back with that12xu

Also, I lived in Yonkers for 2 years. Didn't love it, but it was affordable. 20 min ride to Grand Central out my door.
- +1 if i moved out of the ghetto i'd move north along Metro North. Same dif on the commute but closer to Hudson ValleyDoubleKing
- Sleep Hollow is nice. :) Plus, they gotz a headless fuckin horseman!!harlequino
- Parts of Yonkers are more Ghetto than NYC Ghetto though...TheBlueOne
- True. That and Mount Vernon. But some nice parts too. Along the Bronx Parkway is reasonable and close to trains.harlequino
- Big gang fight in Nyack a few days ago. Nyack!! I don't mean to demean other ghettos just not dressing up HarlemDoubleKing
- Harlem is nearly gentrified..violence has moved to Brooklyn, Queens and suburbs...TheBlueOne

A) What's your budget?
B) Harlequino has a good idea - consider the NYC near northern suburbs (Yonkers, Pelham, New Rochelle). Really 30 minute ride into midtown manhattan (much closer than most of Brooklyn) plus you'll get more reasonable prices (but additioanl commuting costs)

i'm living out in New Rochelle now with the fam. Need to get out and not looking to put myself in debt by doing it. 1200 a month for my share of the rent seems good for me.
- Anything lower than that would be even betterTheDrago
- I grew up in New Ro. Good town...TheBlueOne
- i grew up in Pelham!TheDrago

I'm in Yorkville (UES) now with a buddy, paying under $1100 each. Lucked the hell out to get this place though. I'd suggest looking on craigslist and narrowing your search to the UES and following through on the ones you want as soon as possible. Sometimes the owners just want to get someone in as soon as possible.

its a renters market, a lot of new condos and stuff that we were being soid are now being rented cause of the real estate lull. you can find a brand new place in my area for reasonable rates.

jersey city is way nicer than most parts of nyc and just as convenient, and priced a little lower.
- ya, but its dirty jerseysoynutz7

I used to live in Hoboken and Weehawken for a while, not really a fan although I'd definitely take it if the price is right. Too close to Manhattan to pass up...

GOOD LUCK! (Unless you have a sweet bank role, then obviously not a problem.) Like someone stated Mount Vernon North of the city is only 26 mins. to Grand Central. I recently heard you can get a 2BR in Staten Island pre-war for $1250, but who wants to live out there. (Unless you do.) Try: http://jhliving.com/index.cfm?pa… These folks have some locations by where I live. Even if you have money, finding a 2BR isn't easy, unless you're going to buy... BK is getting expensive too, although it is possible. You're going to have to give and take when it comes to what you would like in options and location.
