I went. Thought it was abit self indulgent. Everyone just showed pictures of their kids!

    • yeah and I was suprised no one show photos of they pets.citizen_h
    • doh lemme reword that - "yeah, I was waiting for photos of peeps friggin pets."citizen_h

yeah I went and overall I did enjoy it. I thought they were all good in many different ways apart from a couple. People who didnt talk about their work were more interesting.

Personal experiences like Daljit from Digit talking about his trip to North Korea and the kids in the stadium holding up coloured cards mimicking a massive digital screen. The guy who had did the poem near the end was great.

What annoyed me were 2 speakers. Nat from airside who spoke about digital designers and our carbon foot print etc which is a relevant subject and I dont have a problem with, but she just came across quite patronising and dull.

The guy from poke seemed like he was just pluggin his sideline projects.

But generally what I want to get from things like this is to be inspired and entertained.

I agree about Nat from Airside. Quite ironic really, as designers we are constantly challenged to try to make information, in whatever media entertaining as well as informative—and she did a really bad job. It's a valid subject but come on, it was dull. If you're gonna get people to change the way they live their life, you need to get them interested. She was really nervous too so I guess that didn't help.

    ups and downs..

the girl speakers were a bit tame..

its was all - carbon footprint, or look i was totally wasted, yeah yeah i drink loads..

s'ok.. but i'd like to see them have fun with it. its really good to see people that are passionate about something trying to shoehorn all their enthusiasm into 20 second slides..

the ones that were tame were the ones that clearly didnt have anything to talk about...

    Florian Schmidt (Hi-Res)

    - Remember to Look up
    - kids see the same things as we do - but stirpped of context

    AKQA
    - boring (went for wee)

    Fred (De-Construct)
    - design = food (you can cook a microwave meal in 2 minutes but its not as good as something you have slaved over for 2 hours)
    - there was life before the drop shadow/bevel/wet floor look

    Nat Hunter (airside)

    - 2nd life doesn't have bodies but they do have footprints, but they do have... CARBIN FOOTPRINTS!!!
    - The internet has a worse carbon footprint than air-crafts, the speed of the internet's development is making creatives take short-cuts in order to break though the noise. (These style of talk, giving us only 6mins!)

    Laura J Bambach, Glue
    - Showed a slide which said... 'Half price £149.99 (with a line through) £99.99 (underneath) ! She then quoted O&M The consumer is not just some woman, she's your wife.
    - Don't think to much about media use, make ppl laugh, cry or ENTERTAIN THEM. Have heros. Be nice.

    David Streek, playerthree
    - Take technology to it's logical conclusion. - think of the evolution of gamming.... (err ask Tom)
    - Books will re-live like photography did or art.
    - Internet doesn't give us a device to access problem solving.

Nic Roope, Poke (our good friend Tom's brother, from Rumpus Room)
    - First slide... a toilet with two circles for the flush 0 o Shows the power of great design!
    - Love iconic T-shits, we don't have album covers anymore.
    - Image of a pink prison. Just by painting a prison pink this reduced the number of re-offenders.

    Liz Sivell, Profero
    - 'Fucking far from ok.'- written in a book shelf.
    - Recomended 'Happy pills' from the happy pills sweet shop in Barcelona.

Tom Bazeley, Lean Mean Fighting Machine
Showed 20 slides worth of copy over photo's which were his list of everyday truths, one gooden was...
Isn't it funny how we all mispronounce from time to time. I once heard a two guys in a pub, one turns to the other and says "I fucking hate you man" to which the other replied "yeah well the feeling neutral."

    Other things I wrote down:
    - People don't watch the same T.V programmes anymore. Real experiences become more & more important.
    - Does everyone know you can click on banners?
    - Luce isn't wearing her glasses and she still saw Alfred Hitchcock in the pancake before me.
    - Porn with the porn bits removed can surprise you even more. Paul Pfeiffer

Wasn't sure about the concept at first, but it was a very enjoyable night, even if it was a bit self-indulgent (totally agree with you scribbler) with the in-jokes and cheering from the people in the front few rows on the right.

I hated Liz Sivell, though - hated her tone of voice, her "OMG I'm so OTT!" persona on stage, they way she said twenty seconds wasn't long enough to talk about a slide, then having several slides in succession where we waited several seconds before she lamented how twenty seconds was far too long and we (the audience) don't know just how long it really is, and the way she let out a laugh/ giggle after she said a joke and expected a huge laugh from the audience only to be met with silence (though to be fair, a couple of times we did genuinely laugh).

Felt a bit sorry for Nat Hunter; seemed like she was ill and not 100% with her croaky voice? Otherwise, a great night with some interesting ideas and people.
