Either they can't grasp how serious the charges are against them, or they assume, like all cases like this in the US, they will get off with community service and time served. Hopefully they get a hard ass judge. They are still young, so I am not saying totally ruin their lives, but give them more than a slap on the wrist.

Not in my opinion. Life sentence would be great. In-fact, I would love a reality show based on watching the 8 get beat down in prison. The show could air for over 70 years if they managed to survive in lock-up.

I am not going to lie I saw and heard about this in the news this morning. and kids are vicious at 12-16. they think their invincible and if they have absolutely no moral grounding which its just about true that kids that age don't have any idea as to the bigger picture they just cannot comprehend morals and reality as a whole yet. Sounds like a bad clique with a bad ring leader if you ask me. I hope that the girl who got injured isn't scarred or traumatized for life from this.

This kind of stuff starts even before they get into grade school. I've had to talk to/train my kids on many occasions in regards to other kids taunting etc. The rule is you don't start or instigate the fight but you protect yourself if it gets physical.
- I never went to a city school but I remember cliques were dangerous with one ring leader. Its generally just one bad apple with an attitude problem that leads to this mess.Iggyboo
