I guess, by the sound of it, you're wanting one pronto, but if you can hold off, I would. I think they're going to release a slimline, pretty update later this year - smaller, quieter and cheaper than the current behemoth.
That's what I'm doing, anyway - aiming for mid to late Autumn.
I'm probably wrong though. If I am, check out Woolworths - they can be surprisingly cheap for a high street store, otherwise go 'online'.

Not as such, no - I just read a lot of geek stuff! :)
Sony finally started turning a profit on the PS3 last quarter. The PS3 will have been out for 2 years by autumn (PSP went lite after 3 years, PS2 went lite after 4). IBM started pumping out smaller cell dies last year (65nm fab process against the typical 90nm size (no, it doesn't make much sense to me either)). Blu-Ray won, so Sony will be securer in long-term investments. And, above all, the PS3 needs a new lick of paint to shed the slightly negative image it has developed.
All that, and there were well-sourced rumours in the hardware press back in February..

- Heh, it's more a justification for NOT buying one for myself right now.Trying, ever so hard, to grow up. So veh dull.detritus

I bought mine in December Nairn. I don't feel the need to quite grow up yet. Despite the hefty mortgage, wife and 4 year old son. I certainly play less than I used to but probably only because GTA isn't out yet. When it is, my wife will divorce me. Probably.

lol, but you see - the difference is that you've grown up enough to warrant a certain amount of regression. When I have a wife, a mortgage and a kid I'll feel more than justified in childish pleasures. 'Til then though - I have a lot of growing up to do!

I say now - Detritus says late Autumn. Mind you, I only paid £250 for mine. Plus I got £60 for my ps2 off Ebay. And every game I've finished on PS3 I've sold on Ebay for over £30. So it's not costing me too much to play.

I really doubt there'll be a revised hardware model as early as this year or even next. The PS3 is pretty much future proof as far as firmware goes so there's not really any need. Firmware 2.20 is due before the end of this month then two more (2.30 and 2.40) by mid-summer with in-game messaging and Blu-ray 2.0.
Plus, GTA IV comes out in April, can't miss that. I say go for it!
- And get Burnout Paradise!5timuli
- More about production costs than software revision, I think. As I said, I don't know - there's just lots of rumour going arounddetritus
- And, personally, I'm waiting for the revision, because I hate the look of the thing in its current form.detritus
- It is ugleee, I'll give you that.JerseyRaindog

if you gotothe sony store: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/… and sign up with a sony card then buy a ps3, you get a $100 off.

Not sure about the UK, but I bought mine at Target, and when I signed up for a Target Credid card got 10% off my entire order. I normally look for the best/cheapest price and I couldn't find anything better then 10% off.
And when you get COD4 we should all have a QBN match, there's a few of us on

hahahah (point5^ nerds). to be honest i was completely blown away by the 1 player demo of cod4. (im no seasoned gamer but bloody hell its moved on from crummy games i would dip into on my pc 6/7 years ago)
the only game ever really liked was half life on the pc.
thanks for the help guys...
seems to be pretty uniform everyhere on the price front.
amazon seems to be doing some deal with hdmi cable and game sorts...qbn cod4 match sounds good - joyride!
still searching for the best uk ps3 deal online ...
- joyride0
Don't let point5 fool ya... some of his gaming secrets will WoW you ;)
And don't by the 20+ $ html cable anywhere, I got mine from amazon for $5, works perfect. just search amazon for html cable, you'll see.
That sony deal seems good, just sign up for a sony card, order ps3, get the 100$ off, and cancel the card when your done.

You played the PC demo and were sold on a PS3? Considering it's out for all the platforms, that seems odd to me.
- jeeves0
haha what ami under suspicion for working for playstation??
its games in general.
playing it on pc got me interested in games again.
ive seen ps3s in action, but never thought of buying one!cant wait!
- detritus0
If you're a PC gamer already, I'd stick with it and spend the PS3 money on a new graphics card and better mouse/keyboard for games.
imo, obviously.
- jeeves0
hmmm... the only thing thats been in my head is costs... pc games dont normally costs 40/500 pounds each like ps games do they.... my pc specs are pretty good too.... so thats cool
- jeeves0
400/500 pnds each is what i ACTUALLY mean obviously

i think the best place to buy a PS3 would be a magical place where topless angels with asses like Scarlett Johansson walk around singing your favorite song while feeding you beer battered onion rings one at a time.
