http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/…i love these chairs, but i just can't get myself to spend the $1500 for a set.

there no knock-off of those chairs?

Every time I sit in one of those, I slide right out.

you're giving your couch to john and getting those uncomfortable things instead?
Or are those for your overpriced dining table?
:P
I am so bored today

$299. The above are made from the original machinery used to make the original chairs. They were originally fiberglass, and Modernica is the only one that continues to make them in fiberglass. Modernica bough the machinery and the original, true "process".
The ones from Room&Board are technically the "official" ones, but are less accurate due to the plastic (not fiberglass) they use. The plastic feels quite a bit cheaper - like a child's school chair.

Herman Miller switched to plastic because they felt it was what Charles & Ray WOULD HAVE done. Which is totally ridiculous and not true to the original design.

- ya, but add $50 for the Eiffel base... which I assume he wants.Antonelli

I have one original Eames chairs, orange on a rocker base and a black vitra-reproduction one with built in cusion, on the Eiffel base. Plastic moulds don't have any character which is what I like about the fiberglass. I bought both of them on ebay (separately ) but the original cost about £230 ($460) more than the repro one which was about £70. Something to think about I suppose.

White does repro's in fibreglass

Yeah, the WhiteonWhite ones are nice and truer to the originals. And they're only $135 each.

The Eames' made a lot of good things.... I don't think those chairs are one of them.
- Antonelli0
why do you say that?
- epigraph0
they're ugly
- Josev0
They're very comfortable.

woah mal! i just clicked that link you put up. that is slick! how is it so cheap? you bought anything from them?
- lvl_130
wait, can you even buy anything off that whiteonwhite site? all i see are links to download the photo or send the photo to someone. i could print the photo out and sit on it, but something tells me it wouldn't be nearly high enough to be able to eat at the table properly :D
- i need to learn how to read. that site is a bit confusing how it just takes you to the gallery though.lvl_13

Yes, I bought my two fiberglass chairs from them. They're not THAT much cheaper than the "official" ones ($300 vs $350), but if you're buying a large quantity it's a nice savings. Many people consider the ones made by Modernica to be more accurate to the actual design and more even more "official" than the ones made by Herman Miller. You can see the fibers in the chair - just giving you a heads up, but it gives it a lot of character.
