"Phorm works by placing a cookie on a user's machine that contains a randomised identifying number. That cookie tracks websites visited and draws conclusions about a user's behaviour in order to target more relevant adverts."

Surely everyone blocks all cookies unless required by a website they use right?
- blocking all cookies like that isn't practical for lots of peopleribit

You have to write in? That's typical. Sign up over the phone, pay online, complaints oh that's by post only.

Also, I don't know if this is part of a script they have been given to say on the phone, but the guy I spoke to said "it's not just virgin, that is with Phorm" when I asked how infringing my privacy affected the contract I am tied into...
They need telling that you will not be bullied by this and that there are PLENTY of ISPs who are NOT with Phorm... grrr this has gotten me really irate.

Just say this:
"What do we do now"
when you need to get a problem settled.
This situation may be different, but it works all the time.

"Phorm has said the data collected is 100% anonymous and no profile of the user is ever created, so that no-one could "reverse engineer" the information in order to establish identity."
Not so bad.

So they don't give you the option to opt-out?
Bet they will quote their 'right to change terms and conditions at any time'...
GRRRR

the guy I spoke to actually said something about "in the terms and conditions of your contract" then I said something about "bordering on illegality" then he said then I said etc.

That is really annoying, there seems to be a rampant breach of privacy going on at present. Im not with an of them though so all good there but still grrrrr.
I ran into a girl at a party who actually sold the data bases from this sort of thing. She found buyers by cold calling. I did not like her much after she told me that.
