Is there a list of sites that use/will serve Phorm ads?
- creative-0
"Phorm has said the data collected is 100% anonymous and no profile of the user is ever created, so that no-one could "reverse engineer" the information in order to establish identity."
Not so bad.

"Phorm works by placing a cookie on a user's machine that contains a randomised identifying number. That cookie tracks websites visited and draws conclusions about a user's behaviour in order to target more relevant adverts."

Surely everyone blocks all cookies unless required by a website they use right?
- blocking all cookies like that isn't practical for lots of peopleribit

the guy I spoke to actually said something about "in the terms and conditions of your contract" then I said something about "bordering on illegality" then he said then I said etc.
- YAYPaul0
So they don't give you the option to opt-out?
Bet they will quote their 'right to change terms and conditions at any time'...
GRRRR

Just say this:
"What do we do now"
when you need to get a problem settled.
This situation may be different, but it works all the time.

Also, I don't know if this is part of a script they have been given to say on the phone, but the guy I spoke to said "it's not just virgin, that is with Phorm" when I asked how infringing my privacy affected the contract I am tied into...
They need telling that you will not be bullied by this and that there are PLENTY of ISPs who are NOT with Phorm... grrr this has gotten me really irate.

You have to write in? That's typical. Sign up over the phone, pay online, complaints oh that's by post only.
- emecks0
If you're with Virgin you can send a complaint to:
NCLC
P.O. BOX 333
Virgin Media Ltd
Matrix Court
Swansea
SA7 9BBat least that is what I've just been told...

Well, glad to be a bethere user. For the second time since those Virgin scammers wanted to sell me 20Mbit Dsl (for the price of the cable)

That is really annoying, there seems to be a rampant breach of privacy going on at present. Im not with an of them though so all good there but still grrrrr.
I ran into a girl at a party who actually sold the data bases from this sort of thing. She found buyers by cold calling. I did not like her much after she told me that.

[Apologies for the long post]
If you get your broadband through any of these providers, you might be interested to know that they're planning on analysing all of your internet traffic and selling data derived from it to a dodgy marketing company.
They intend to do this without your permission and they apparently are going to start doing it over the next few months.
The idea is that they can use this data to personalise the advertising output by some partner network.
The dodgy marketing company is apparently ex-spyware, Russian-financed and sends your data to servers in China. It's about as sus as you can get. And three of Britain's most well-known communication brands are jumping in to bed with them for oodles of extra revenue each quarter.
They're going to do this without advertising the fact and only offering the sketchiest of opt-out options for the people who do complain.
Call up your ISP and moan about this!
