I strongly dislike any 3D or drop shadow effects to any logo, period.

Wow. I really digg both of the originals. Thanks for sharing these.

microsoft has the money and ability to easily revert to that monolithic, diabolical, sinister ass 2nd logo, and not risk losing any sales. they're firmly rooted and here to stay. i think it would be a fucking badass move on their part.
unfortunately you know apple would never, ever, fucking ever go back to that original illustration, despite how cool it is. if iphones had that engraved into the back, i'd be an iphone owner.

that 2nd microsoft logo looks like shit. you people are fucking blind.

I like how the guy guy who did the rainbow logo got paid absolutly zero dollars
- vague0
antonelli, you're fucking retarded. seriously, end your career now.
- Jaline0
The second one is awesome, imo. The "o" looks like it's going to chop you up into little pieces and then eat you up. Badass.
- Antonelli0
well, what's so special about it? That "O" looks like a fucking anus. Ironically, that's what comes out of Microsoft... shit.
- What about the X-Box?Jaline
- Also, Microsoft computers are better for some things. Macs aren't good for everything.Jaline
- I never said Macs are good for everything. Anyway, I'm not talking about gaming consoles... thats a little different.Antonelli

And yes, also b/c of the retro look/colours with the simplicity.

antonelli. youre looking at this from the perspective of a fucking pompous ass, piece of shit, i-grease-my-pubic-hair-with-colo... dumb fuck "graphic design aesthetic" view.
look at the fucking thing. it's this crazy, monolithic looking, foreboding design from way back when, which casts this crazy ominous presence in a fucking cool ass way.
i dont give a fuck if it would look ridiculously out of place on some fancy fuck package you're probably masturbating about.
and microsoft producing shit? ok, just stfu.
- ismith0
I agree with Antonelli... I don't much like the 2nd logo. I'm glad others can appreciate it, but it just doesn't look right to me.
As for Apple's logo, I wish they'd bring back the 2nd one. Colors ftw
- I know lots of people who think you are gay if you have the rainbow logo anywhere. I say they suck.Jaline

It's nothing special. Everything corporate from that time period looked like that. The fact that it IS retro makes people like this stuff. I can appreciate some of it (I actually really like simple corporate logotypes - it's my favorite thing to do), but this one has never done anything for me. I've always thought that typeface wasn't very well drawn. Look at how proportionately small that S is compared to the other letters. The whole thing sits a little awkward for me.
I think you're getting that whole ominous/foreboding feeling from it because you NOW know what Microsoft has become and you're taking yourself back to 1975 and it's like you're looking into the future or something. I'm sure back then you wouldn't have that feeling if you saw this logo. You look at the thing and see the beginning of a "technological revolution" or whatever... because you already know that's what happened.
Tons of corporate logos from that period have that ominous feeling if you look at them today.
- Antonelli0
Oh, and I lost about 2 hours of heavy Illustration work at work today. Thank you, Microsoft.
