agreed - those sample images were surprisingly noisy.

check out the Samsung DSLR coming out shortly. Its really nice and judging by their recent production of entertainment and prosumer / consumer products, its promising.

    • they're rebadged Pentaxs (or maybe jointly developed is more accurate). great value in the Pentax line.monNom

no, you can't. the 12 mp doesn't matter when your sensor can't pick up minute shades of grey or color within the darks. the rebel sensor is and always has been a joke. the noise is unbelievable.

one of these days consumers will realize that after 10 mp, size becomes less a factor and quality moreso. shooting on an ISO above 400 on the rebel is guaranteed to have crappy image quality, especially in moderate light or below.

Above 400? No, thats a bit harsh, although from what I see, 800 is the highest I'd be happy to use...

yeah but the noise level at 400 on the rebel is that at about 1600 on the 40-d. the 5-d at 1600 is about that of 200 on the rebel.

    quality chips > megapixel count.

megapixels don't really mean shit as colin said.

it's a way to hype a camera...to push the latest/greatest with more megapixels...but i am wasting my breathe with you all, because most of you already know this :)

more megapixels is fine, as long as the pixels are bigger too. otherwise you are crammin' too many into a small size thereby often degrading the image quality with noise and ca.
