Dobs last time I stayed in a pretty cheap yet clean place around Akihabara I think (that's where all the electrical geek stuff is..)..I'll check with my wife and email you the info. I highly recommend it. Cheap, clean, close to subway...

andon ryokan is by far and away the coolest place on a budget in Tokyo. Won loads of design awards, and cool as fuck.

The Sakura Hotel in Jimbocho is cheap, in a great neighborhood (relaxed, real close to the enormous palace, lots of stuff within walking distance) and very close to the subway. Rooms run about $70-80 a night for a single or a double, and $30 for a dorm setup. It's very clean and modern, and they have an awesome cafe as you walk in. Real nice, clean, and swank place.

i always stay at the Mets Shibuya.
right on top of Shibuya Station (the Narita Express will get you directly there), pretty cheap for the area, lots of convenient stuff right across the street (7-Eleven / McDonalds / coffee shops), tons of restaurants and a 5 minutes walk to the Q-Front.if you decide to stay there it's better to call (speak slowly) to make your reservation. it's often full but calling a couple times or asking to call you if there's vacancy will guarantee you a room (happened to me, people do cancel).
breakfast is included if it makes any difference and the hotel is super neat.

Anyone ever use this service? I have a friend who has in Costa Rica and loved it. The web site gets the balls but the prices looked good last week when I looked.
