Is this type of mouse relative navigation annoying to anyone? Assume that the thumbnails themselves would have a rollover effect.

it works much better for me when the list of thumbs is smaller.

What effect?
It's kind of annoying, but not so bad with smaller images.

i think the speed could be adjusted a bit (slowed) but it doesn't really annoy me.

I've used this sort of nav in the past, and discovered that it's very frustrating to the average web user. I now avoid it when possible.

That's kinda where I'm at too Tavish. This just might be one of the times where it's not possible to avoid.
Thanks Y'all

its only annoying when you cant really make it stop on the image you want. but this is generally speaking.

I don't mind it. It's like a scrollbar cept' you don't have to press a scroll button. It might be easier if you use larger images though. What may be difficult for some users is trying to stop on a specific thumbnail. Maybe try slowing it down a bit too.

Not a fan of it myself - depends on audience. Hip design audience sure go for it, moms and pops perhaps not.

Not option 2.

I think option 2 has the most potential (maybe sped up a tad)

Nevermind then.
heh

It's not annoying because it would not appeal to the everyman, its anoyying because the concept is simple wrong... I see a thumbnail, go to rollover it, and it fecks off. But Option 2 is someways towards working.

definitely not #1.
I'm liking 2 the best out of those
Or just use light box :D
Kidding - I think that's prolly the most overuser thing on the web right now
