haha, Kiiroi, their site was just frozen from a certain moment... it was unchanged for a few years and I kept coming back... always the same old news item... but from a few years ago...
that zander.dk guy was pretty hot these days ;-)

protein os just came back online after an extended absence, shame the type renders horribly on my computers... anyone else noticed this?

I'm still waiting for the Protein store to re-open. They had some great stuff up in there.
http://proteinos.com/ is the link referenced above, if anyone is curious.

they're going away because they weren't making enough money to make the work involved worthwhile

so does the type look bad on your screen J ?
- The type looks okay. I think it's the images, as kalkal mentioned below.Jaline
- funny, images don't look too bad to me but the smoothing on the type looks terrible...

The type looks fine here.. a lot of the images are obviously scaled in the browser though.

how many design portals do we need??

I used to go to Newstoday but they're gone now. Now I just hang here.

according to his portfolio site the lounge72 was getting about 4000 visits a day, i'm sure it was more than that cause if ads are paying .10 for every 1000 views thats only $.40 a day :(

Perhaps the format is considered outdated...rather than cram a lot of content into tiny boxes with 45 degree arrows and "pixel" fonts, the new consensus seems to be the rise of the simpler blog format. With larger screens and shorter attention spans, users don't mind scrolling so much, and studies indicate they are more likely to enjoy 11px Arial than 10px Verdana.
Welcome to Web 3.0.

- I actually like Arial more than Verdana, but not the larger sizes. More like 10px and 11pxJaline
- Wait, so you think Web 2.0 == 45 degree arrows and pixel fonts? That was so 1998, Web 1.0 mayne.NONEIS

I like QBN / NT best cause it's the simplest. I liked Newstoday best though.
- NT/QBN always lacked the heart and personality that other design portals did/do have. Like K10K/Netdiver/DeLijs... was that mate with who you went to drink a beer in a cosy bar while exchanging design news, and NT being the phone booth which is plastered with phone sex ads, besides the design news with some dog pee in the corner.calcio

QBN and Threeoh was my favorite. Who wants to make a design portal with me?

Well I'm happy to announce I have found the answer. This is THE definitive list of decent portals.
