Alright. Just bought a house, and I am going to need to buy real furniture. I dont have the hugest budget in the world (I just bought a house for crying out loud), and I need to get something good. Ikea is out, their furniture sucks. Where is a good place that has a lot of furniture to look at. Something akin to Levitz, but not with the old person style furniture. Does this magical place exist?
Thanks.

(Oct 30 07, 12:19)I'm married and have owned three homes, and I still love the ikea. :) I wouldn't furnish my livingroom with it, but it's handy for a number of things.
In LA, furniture shopping is best done in hollywood- retro furniture shops abound.

Oh, yeah...let me rephrase. Ikea is good for a couple things:
Shelves, Lighting, Accessories.
I am specifically looking to furnish my dining room and living room. So, Dining table, chairs, coffee table, media center, side tables. I wont be buying those things from ikea. I am reserving the ikea purchases for the office.
I will have to hunt around I suppose. Furniture hunting is such a pain in the ass.
I went to Buttercup in Culver city. They have some sick stuff...unfortunately it is all extremely expensive. A dining table and chairs runs roughly 4k. Thats pretty steep at this point in my life.
Thanks!

Congrats on the house Marcus, super rad. Here are my furniture links:

http://www.westelm.com
http://www.cb2.com/
http://www.inmod.com/
and the rose bowl: http://www.rgcshows.com/RoseBowl…Also Blueprint on Beverly has tents sales a few times a year, so decent deals if you get there early.
My advise is to get ok furniture to start off with and piece by piece buy the stuff you want when you can afford it.

i would second room and board and cb2.
also roche bobois: http://www.rochebobois.com/sites…
not cheap though!also as arthur said the vintage shops in hollywood.
i always found that pile of shit tent place over by the melrose shops to be intriguing. tey always had random design classics there for a fair price...as well as some weird shit...and some down-right nasty stuff. what is that place called? does anyone know what i am talking about?

if/when you have kids, virtu, you will fall in love with ikea.

I was in a similar spot a few years back and bought a bunch of stuff from http://www.eq3.com
Good experience all round.

maybe that place wasn't by the melrose shops...it was on a corner and most of the stuff was just covered by tents/tarps...but there was a part that was actually in a building...but that part was small.
now it's driving me crazy.

oh, and http://www.boconcept.us in Santa Monica is maybe a little bit cheaper. Maybe.

Wow, thanks for the help everyone. I am going to have to take a look around at these places. Furniture shopping has now become exciting again.
Luckily I already own a great couch. I am buying a matching one now that I have more space. http://www.thesofaco.com is really great. Customize everything about the couch. Fun Fun.
Thanks Dave! Its nice to get a place of my own finally. :)

There's a place on Sepulveda just south of Pico. I don't know the name...it's more like a warehouse but they always have weird chairs and statues outside of it. Anyway, I bought some great stuff there (used to live across the street from the place) and it's all quality stuff for dirt cheap prices. They can also order what you need. It's on the east side of the street next to the frame store on the corner. Check it out.

check out mortise & tenon. they've got a store off la brea in hollywood and one in hermosa beach off the pch. the store in hermosa is all sale stuff, some of it super cheap. i think hermosa store will be closing soon though.

- lvl_130

- lvl_130
