you can tweak the spacing in the "gap" within the stroke.
you can also expand the stroke and draw in the exact corners you like or just draw over the corners, so all ends match.
if that doesnt do it, wait for NT's horton the smartest illy designer ever, im sure he will have the right way to do it.

You're going to have to make a custom brush. Create a dash piece and a corner piece, and then create a new pattern brush. Stick the corners in the corner boxes and the dashes in between, and you're good to go. You'll need to tweak a little to get it right. Is the only way to do this in Illustrator.
Otherwise, use Indesign, which matches corners by default.

i don't know if that's possible...might just have to mess around with the spacing and the size...which sounds like more hassle than it's worth.
gotta' be something that is easier though...layer style/effect?

i posted too late as per usual.

What I don't get is how ID automatically spaces it and AI doesn't but yet they are both made by the same company.
I have a bunch of different sized boxes which will all have the same stroke width and spacing, so I'm hoping there is an easy way to this. Maybe making them all in ID and then saving the file as an .eps is the best way to go.
Tim, you out there?...need your AI sillz0rz.

Here's an AI file with the pattern brush in it that is my goto for generic coupons. Check out the pattern brush and you'll figure it out.

Thanks ducky!

Anyone else want to take a crack at this? So far duckies option is by far the best. Just wondering if any AI gurus know of another way to skin this cat.

i have probably spent 10 hours over the years trying to do this very thing and always ended up yelling at my monitor:
"fuck off illustrator"then i come back and appologize. i ended up just making corners by hand and drop those at corners between strokes that are dashed.

holy crappers my name is all over pvn today... i'm not comfortable with the spotlight.
chris sorry but as far as i know ducky is correct and a dashed brush with corner shapes and auto spacing is the only way to go in AI.
pretty easy though once you get it all setup.
is weird that ID has the option but not AI.

Cool, thanks horton!
