    • What about studies that say pregnant mothers who consume aspertame show increased risk of autism in their child.ETM
    • I personally, would be far more inclined to attribute it to that as there might be a more direct correlation in timelines.ETM

    • It just seems like this graphic is saying that vaccines cause demyelination, or MS, which then causes autism. But there are no cases of MS > autism.monospaced

    • Why on Earth would she need to prove her opinion in court? You can't deny or prove opinion either way?detritus

    • funding bias studies*set
    • Why are your scientists more trustworthy than ..er.. well, scientists? Seems like some weird and self-enforcing dissonance at play.detritus
    • I didn't say that at all.set
    • The fact is, if you do the independent research, and ignore big pharma and MD/GPs, after a while the conclusion is one of an obvious link, as mugwart found outset
    • You're all welcome to listen to pharma corp funded studies, your doctors and the bbc and spout your pompous assertions. Doesn't really count for shit I'm afraidset
    • That is not a fact, set. Sorry. I'm not going to bother any more here, but the onus is on you to actually prove a connection beyond false correlation.detritus
    • Fact is none of us know for certain, but the link is there for anyone to plainly see.set
    • Personally, I'm more worried about my aging stoner genes causing autism, if I'm lucky enough to have a kid. To that there is evidence of causation, sadly.detritus
    • The problem is finding independent studies. I'm not anti science, not vaccinating the single greatest thing ever to happen to you kills one but ...mugwart
    • In this day and age I find it naive to not have a doubt in massive cooperation's when they are making billions. Look at governments and corruption...mugwart
    • Yet we're all alive in this day and age because of vaccines and the pharmaceutical industry.detritus
    • I don't know why I bother with this sort of shit were set's concerned — he always quickly resorts to insult and obliviously-arrogant dismissal.detritus
    • Out!detritus
    • I don't want to come across as an "alternate fact nut" but I don't know if we are. We grew out of the industrial age and that was to benefit the rich.mugwart
    • The only arrogant dismissal here has come from people absolutely certain that there's no link, which is idiotic. They're the only ones I insult.set
    • The worst I could level is that we're creating poisons to offset the various poisons of modern living. Yet we live longer & healthier than for hundredsof years.detritus
    • I don't for one second think that Pharma is beyond keeping an eye on, but as equally - there are THOUSANDS of scientists around the world who are just & honestdetritus
    • there are too many smart people picking away at the myriad of problems, from all angles, representing a multitude of philosophies and agenda.detritus
    • btw, if anyone's interested, this is the news story that led to me reading up on Autism this morning:detritus
    • http://www.nature.co…detritus
    • I agree with you Detritus.set
    • What happens consistently here is that when I criticise people for thinking they know X without doubt, people assume I think I know Y without doubt.set
    • You then typically go on to ridicule people's sources and general format of understanding, which doesn't do your stance any favours.detritus
    • "get woke, BBC-reading sheep!" etcdetritus
    • Having gone through the difficult decision to vaccinate my kiss approx 12 years ago at the height of the Autism scare in the UK, myself and the wife...Morning_star
    • ...concluded that even with the potentia link to autism the danger of m,y kids not have the MMR vaccines was far greater personally and from a community...Morning_star
    • ...level.Morning_star
    • FFS kids not kiss.Morning_star
    • Well when people have an opinion based on nothing but the status quo, and are sure it's fact because it's the status quo, they deserve ridicule. Fuck them.set
    • As far as I can see, set, it tends to be you who polarises people into categories like that. Certainly, I can't see who you're referring to here —detritus
    • Me? Morning_star? Mono? as far as I can see, all of us have some reading around the subject, not solely from your assumed 'status quo' sources.detritus
    • It appears you have unlitaterally decided that opposing views are simply and absolutely incorrect. Why? Based upon your own superior knowledge?detritus
    • Can you appreciate why that might be a somewhat frustrating approach to come up against?detritus
    • I've never once said I have superior knowledge on the subject, or even that vaccines cause autism. I said there is definitely a link.set
    • I've only attacked those who have made absolute statements. Did I attack you? No...set
    • Human brain finds links and patterns even when they're not there. It's how it works.sr_rosa
    • That fuzzy logic is a huge advantage to survive in the wild. Not so much for having a rational discussion or for a scientific approach based on facts.sr_rosa
  • detritus0

As it happens, I spent about an hour reading up on autism this very morning, completely unrelated to ^this here, and was surprised to learn we don't even know what causes the condition.

Also, like cancer there is no singular 'autism', so..

Yeah. Strange to see that an anti-vaccine infographic appears to know this — I hope someone tells autism researchers they're wasting their time!
