Mornin all!
Just booked a weekend to Lisbon with my gf. Heading off in about two weeks. I've got my guide book, but wondering if theres any lisboeta on here or anyone who's been that can recommend good spots to go.
I'll get all the touristy stuff from te guidebook, but anywhere I shouldn't miss out on? Bars, restaurants, clubs etc?
ta in advance!

haven't been there for a while now to know what's hot but best thing for a night out in the city is getting to Bairro Alto (old district downtown), maybe try Pap'Açorda restaurant for a nice meal
http://www.concierge.com/destina…
There's a lot of bars and pubs in that area and it's cool just to move around having a few drinks here and there. Also there's usually a lot of info on gigs/events in most bars.
maybe this will help too:

http://lecool.info/cities/lisboa…there's also the new museum at Centro Cultural de Belém (the Berardo Collection) with enough remarkable masterpieces to make your day.
Or better yet - ask rafalski. He has been there not long ago.

Ian, get the €4 daily tickets, they're not only good for all buses, metro and trams, but also Elevador De Santa Justa and the funny skewed trams you have to try jumping onto.

http://www.carris.pt/en/My biggest fun in Lisbon was to hop on and off the trams, wherever they took me, especially around Alfama district - amazing ride.
Something likeThere is a shoe store in Alfama, not sure about the address.. Witt might know. It is a complete mess, ladies' shoes that look to be at least 15 years old stock are piled on the floor. The store looks like it's abandoned, but it actually opens if you arrange by phone.
Museu Nacional de Azulejo is nice http://www.mnazulejo-ipmuseus.pt…

Av. 24 de Julho has some pretty dandy bars.
the docklands in the summer nights is a bit more packed than it might be at this time of year, could be worth a gamble..
my favourite place in lisbon is the Estufa Fria. (which is kinda like the Eden Project hidden away in the middle of lisbon) if you go to the Mrqs De Pombal roundabout and walk up the garden hill, hang left and concealed down there is this huuuuuge botanical garden.. well worth a look.
also on top of the hill theres a restaurant (called Eleven?) that overlooks the whole of lisbon down to the Tagus...

hey don't miss the Oceanario in the old Expo 98 grounds. Always worth a look:

Ah, sweet! I'll take a look at those links at lunch and get an idea of where to go! Hey Raf, quick q, seems the hotel i booked is further out than I thought, is Lisbon small enough to walk around (like dublin) or should I depend on public transport?
I hate public transport! Getting around London by tube wrecked my noggin!
- Witt0
where's the hotel?
- ian0
I think its beside the Gulbenkian museum, a little further up the top of Av de Liberdade.
I thought it was further down but checked out the map today and it aint. Its just that I prefer walking around cites, I like discovering side streets and strange little places!

ok. nice area (where i used to live) that will be around 45m-1hr walk downtown Lisbon (Baixa-Chiado). It's around 4 km.
You can walk it no prob (you literally go down the town) - but you might want to get have a bus pass or get a Taxi when going back to the hotel.

I am just a weekend Lisboner like yourself Ian, don't know anything outside the centre.
It is quite walkable, but as I said, public transport is part of the fun over there if ancient rollercoaster sounds fun to you. The buses and trams make much more sense than Dublin's (I mean you don't need to be local to know where the stops are) and aren't as packed as London's.
Really, the daily ticket + a map gets you sorted. In the centre, you get on an old tram and see where it takes you, then take a walk around the area, get on another tram.. just make sure you try all the elevators and funiculares!Bairro Alto is great for both bar/restaurant interior design checking and eating/drinking in. Lots of nice shops there too.
I heard Alfama is not recommended for after-dark walkarounds.. :)
We stayed close to a building called Teatro Eden (I think it's a hotel now). Stunning Art Deco.

Dang. We were all happy when we booked it thinking we had sussed a cool spot!
Thats not too bad a walk though, was worried it would be worse!
- Witt0
it's a cool stop. just not in the city centre - but it's still central Lisbon. It's actually much more quiet and nice to sleep in than the old part of the city.

Isn't there a Metro along Av de Liberdade?
- Witt0
yeah - near Gulbenkian/Av. Liberdade you have Campo Pequeno Station (yellow line) and you'll be wanting to get to Baixa Chiado (blue line) - You'll need to change in Rotunda Station if i'm not mistaken.
jesus - I just realised it's over 10 years since I don't take the metro.

don't forget that lisbon is known as the city of the 7 hills. so prepare to do some uphill and downhill walking! it's nothing like london in terms of area or flatness...
i think there have been all good suggestions posted already, i would only reiterate walking through Bairro alto, principe real (above b. alto), baixa/chiado, rossio. All very close to each other and show what lisbon is all about. A cool place to see slso is Miradouro de Santa Catarina, near B. Alto. its a belvedere (?) where all the locals hang out at any time of day (especially at night) for meeting up, having a drink smoking, listening to music and watching that great view over lisbon. Other than that, just walk around those areas and you wont be disappointed! If you have time you should check out Cascais (30 min by train along the coast) which is a small city on the coast. used to be a small fishing village where the royals and nobles of the time vacationed. good sea food, surf and nice to see a bit of outside the city centre! Enjoy

There's plenty of lookout points, like Miradouro da Graça http://www.flickr.com/search/?s=…
With the combination of trams+maps+guessing you'll get to amazing places ;)

drop by nº75 of Rua da Conceição with Rua da Prata (Downtown) to see if you're lucky enough to catch the Roman Cript open. It only opens to the public twice in the year due to maintenance work (it is usually underwater). There's no schedule for it because it must be drained according to the whims of the river.
It's an old set of roman cripts that sustained a building long gone. It's a bit creepy going down there in the middle of a busy street but it's fun.
don't go there if you suffer from claustrophobia though.
