Is there a search or find function within photoshop cs3 that allows me to reveal a layer or a folder by name?
I've got a psd with a bunch of nested folders, each with more layers and I need to find a layer without drilling down into the contents of each... single... folder...
I must be blind because I can't seem to find it within photoshop (if it exists at all)
thanks!

don't think it exists...

are you trying to find a layer that is turned off or on?

you know how to select a layer that is turned on right?
with the Marqee tool selected hold down control command and click on the layer you are trying to select.

I got that part, thanks. Looking to select a layer by name, whether its on or off. I'm dealing with 50-60 layers all nested within various folders.

50 or 60? shiiiitttt. you could wizz through that in like 30 seconds.
try files with over 1000 layers! now that is fun times! especially when dealing with masks!

true true, but I've got about 30 of those kinds of psds.... so a little search action would be super beneficial... and a big time saver.
can't believe that as mature as photoshop is, a simple search feature is a glaring omission.
i hate you adobe. i love you adobe.

Spotlight on OSX Tiger will search layer names and text content in .psd files.

Nevermind, that won't help you.

heh, yeah i hear ya'.
plus most of the files i work in consist of file structures such as "layer 1293 copy 3" in layer set "asin column 3 copy 8"
...so the search function would not work for me :)

wow! nice tip. too bad spotlight searches local drives only and not specific network drives....
still, a good thing to know. thanks!

I operate that way most of the time too. but there are instances when i'll actually name some element that i think is important or someone else will need. If it REALLY needs to stand out, I'll give the layer a color.
it'd be rad in addition to a search feature to be able to solo/hide layers and or folders by color.
