well I know of at least one band up here who are pretty good, do all their own stuff blah blah etc, but have been getting backed a bit for a while to get big and the amount of sniping and griping about them from people like promoters etc in the background because of this is huge. They basically get as closed to accused of being a manufactured band as you can get without using the words.
my (paranoid?) fear would be that even bringing a punk rock attitude you might get labeled in a similar way because of this.
music fans are notoriously fickle and plenty are out there looking for reasons to begrudge someone some success.
there endeth the gloom and doom.
whatever you choose, I'll still be listening

my initial reaction, too, was no, but that's why I'm a loser and not a winner

yea kelpie that's my biggest fear about the whole thing. i mean if anyone listens to our music it's obvious we're not like that but then if people just hear about us or see us without listening then they could get the wrong idea. but that's their problem, not ours isn't it. we're just looking for a break. how many unpaid gigs do we have to do up and down the country before we're considered to be credible? meh.

well I am a winner and my winning attitude says stuff reality tv cos its just not necessary in this case...
in fact if you really want to get big, fuck the london hordes and move up north, it'll increase your chances 10 fold ;D

you should defently use the media if you can. you got no idea how powerful tv is, and to reject this kind of offer is just stupid if you want to reach out. and then you can quit whenever etc etc,,, congrats

Don't take this the wrong way, but in all honesty - what real integrity did you have anyway? You are creating pop music and you play to a pop crowd of muppet hipsters at corporate Glastonbury and the like, now that is all very well but it's not as though you are some deeply artistic band of political thinkers and crowd motivators with a driving cause for world betterment. You are a disposable pop band so while you may have great intentions and a respect for musical and artistic integrity and all that jazz, at the end of the day, you're only as clean as your bath water.

oooh, you are fucked vespa - FUCKED!
As soon as this show airs, i'm goin to the tabloids and exposing this thread. Especially this little gem:
"i don't respect the judges' musical opinion at all so i don't give a shit if they like us or not, "
I can just see the headline now: "SHOCK - Reality TV Sex Kitten Slates Judges!"

vespa:
1) thanks to that link above, first time I heard your stuff. Nice. You don't need the reality tv show.
2) reread your first post and didn
't realize you said your drummer entered you guys in this. Your drummer?? Come on, as a musician you should know you NEVER, NEVER listen to any idea that the drummer comes up with. Just keep 'em supplied with booze, sticks and heads and they'll be alright...:)

oi Kuz, want to come to Glasgow in october?
- vespa0
well musicians always come off sounding like wankers if they talk about their integrity but to pick up on your point, at glastonbury we were playing on the Left Field Stage which is the main independent stage. we WERE actually playing inbetween political thinkers and crowd motivators, in fact Tony Benn gave a speech just after that and it was the most moving political speech i've seen in recent years.
we also make pop music, but there's good pop music that can sometimes make sense out of life for people in some small way and then there's marketeer-driven crap that fed back to consumers so quick they don't know they are eating shit.
you may or may not know what i'm talking about, i don't know anything about you and your artistic endeavours.
