One day, BlueOne, when the next Civil War comes, and once again brother is pitted against brother...
You and yours will have your own odd and amusing little beef to settle with muskets and bayonets.

blueOne... does your brother pop over to your house unannounced to borrow stuff he 'knows your not using'?
I get that one alot... apparently my brothers 'know' if I'm not using something regularly in my home... it's an odd sixth sense type of thing with them...

Arrrgghh..what's going on today!! My mom just called me (she's semi-retired, works three days a week at an insurance company)
"Hello"
"Hi mom..."
"Can you help me with a computer problem?"
"I suppose..what's up?"
"I can't put a logo in. It's moving all the text around?"
"What program are you using?"
"What do you mean, 'program'? It's what I use at work."
"*sigh* OK. I mean, is it a word processing program, you know MS Word or something?"
"I don't know. It's what we use to write letters. (yells over her sholder - 'Betty what program is this?' - We don't know..it's custom..whatever is on the computers here..."
"Mom, is it Word?"
"No, I don't think so."
"OK, is there a toolbar at the top?"
"What's a toolbar"
"You know something with little menus that let you change fonts and stuff..."
"Oh yeah. Sure. Of course there is."
"OK. Um, can you right click on the logo picture?"
"Right click? What do you mean?"
*bangs head on desk*
"Mom..I can't really help you without knowing what program it is or being there with you to figure it out..."
"I don't understand I thought you knew computers. You're always on the internet."
*bangs head on desk again and again....*

haha... I gets a call like that like once a month.
Best tip to date: hold the alt-key down, press print screen. ctrl-v into email, send
I would hate to work at Geek Squad or something like that, dealing with that all week... yikes

Holy jesus, hahaa.
I used to get the mom calls too. She's finally gotten a bit savvy. Although all the books on Photoshop I buy for her, doesn't dissuade her from using PowerPoint to design and build posters, concert programs, etc. Arghh!

my mom thought her computer needed replacing because her 'internet was broken'.
i took a look and she had slid the browser window almost completely off the screen.
when i drug it back over to center view she just looked blankly and pretended i hadn't done anything to help because she is one of those types you can't tell anything because she knows everything already.
annoying!

My dad asked me to teach him about building websites and stuff, so he can have something to do when it retires, but I'm really impatient mainly for one thing - and that is teaching things to people. I told him to read some books or maybe I will help him it once I'm more free, but there isn't much money in doing that stuff. I feel kind of bad for not helping out, but I'm sure we can figure out something in the future, like right before he retires.
My mom always calls me up from work for help, which I think is cute (she talks really quietly on the phone too). But once we're home it's a different story. She's more loud and impatient, and doesn't seem to understand something after being shown it a few times.
*sigh
(realizes this belongs in blog thread...)

lol, Shari, my mom did the same thing once!
however, she's a very extreme / moody person. if you help her out she'll be very grateful and look at you in amazement. If you don't help her out, BEWARE.
- kelpie0
you realise you referred to your father as "it" twice in that post, jaline?
- Jaline0
hahaha, my mistake.
the second time I at least added a "him" before the "it" to be somewhat civil.

hahhaha.

ive given a photoshop tutorial over msn before to someone that is pish with computers.
you've no idea how much patience was needed. something that made it worse was that the person was a slow as death typer too so answers took an age.
oh the joys.
i get friends etc asking me about setting up emails/computers/networks and all that pish presuming i have a clue about the stuff cos i do "computers" at work.
i think we all get that kinda shiiite
