I think the two fonts are different types. Fonts will work cross platform if they are OpenType (OT) or maybe TrueType (TT). but not postcript.
I had this problem on two different macs. The type family was the same, but probably from two different foundries because it kept fucking up the layout, just like you said.
If possible, try to get an opentype version of that Helv. and use the same file for both machines?

sounds like you're working with 2 different helv neue's.. a mac postscript and prolly a PC ttf.
if the text shifts when you reassign its not the same font, regardless of naming.
adobe hlev neue will be different from linotype helv neue, etc etc.
you should invest in 1 otf copy if you wanna bounce between mac and PC.

ah, thanks for the info play. i guess i just thought if it was helv. neue blah blah it was always helv neue blah blah.
stupid foundries messing my shit up!
:)anyone want to trade a postscript set of helv. neue for an OT or TT version?
settle down now, i'm only joking!....what?

oops i was wrong; adobe and linotype are the same helv neue... both linotype's;
http://www.adobe.com/type/browse…
http://www.linotype.com/1266/neu…but regardless, my point being that not all helv neues are exactly the same.

thanks horton. that's what i gotto do i guess. well at least that problem is finally figured out.
it was seriously driving me insane. always having to re-align stuff from home to work from work to home...uggghh.

are they all (on both machines) OpenType format, or TrueType, Type1, etc and Flash is recording that spec and thus asking you for the correct when you go between platforms?
Typographica will answer this for you i bet though...

hmmm, not sure. really dumb question but the little icon is an a-as in adobe systems and it says it postscript...i believe it's thesame on my pc...but i don't have it here to check unfortunately :\

just use arial for all your designs, should be a seamless transition between your machines as it's a system font
and arial is exactly the same as helvetica ;o)
