What sort of file organization techniques do people use? I work at a place that has a mess for a file system things like putting hundreds of logos in one PSD file so it cant be searched by the computer. What sort of things do you guys do to organize large amounts of files?

That's amazing.
More than 1 logo in a psd file is abso-fucking-lutely incredible.I put all of my projects into a main project folder, organize by client name and then by individual project from there.
An example:Projects > clientName > clientName Brochure
Inside there I seperate working files from "assets" (ie: project images/logos/samples) so they're easily searchable and accessible.
If you're looking to create a database of stuff you already have to better organize yourself, I'd create seperate folders by client name and then break it down inside that folder so it makes sense to you.
Hope that's what you were looking for. Sounds like you're in a bit of a nightmare.

Jobs 2007:
Jobs 2007 > in progress
Client 1
Client 2...Jobs 2007 > archived:
Jobs 2007-DVD001
Jobs 2007-DVD002...and burn off a DVD with every 4.3gbs of job files created.
assets inside client folders as the others suggested.
i also use OSX color labeling for flagging hot folders, temp items, etc etc... just wish there was an easy way to assign a keyboard shortcut to a color label, been a big gripe of mine for years.

Putting logos in PSDs is fucking stupid.

Sorry, that wasn't very constructive but I stand by that comment.

putting logos in psd's isn't fucking stupid, to a point.
the point being that as long as you tag that psd file then you can search for it.
