why not measure the view finder dimensions and have assorted configurations laser printed on a transparency? you could black out whatever shape you want. Simply trim your inserts to fit with an exacto. A little trial & error and just pop it into the eyepiece

i was kind of thinking of something similar to that v5. the problem is that the convex glass on the view finder is so small, it could be quite a trial and mostly error process hehe...
but i guess it might be the only viable solution so i may just give it a go. thanks.
it would so handy if canon could set up some sort of led customization though...can i market that shit to them? yeah, probably not :)

...or buy an eyepiece extension or angle viewfinder and alter those. There's no way to change the aspect ratio of the focusing system, it only works in that diamond shape across the whole format.

Can you get a second focusing screen? Maybe get it frosted or tape off a square a buff the extra..
I think you can just pop the top and swap out the focusing screen on those..
(but I have Nikon stuff.. so not sure...)

be careful. you can really fuck shit up if you don't watch what your doing. and be SUPER careful not to get any finger prints on the screen - that shit doesn't come out.

it don't think he tells you where you can get\order the screens from. but you could just draw a square on the original screan.
used to draw 8x12 crop into my 6x6 camera for the same purpose

Uh, thanks. I actually have a 10D, which means I haven't known about that button for four years now.
I'm special.

While we're on the topic of Canon SLR, is there a way to light up the display control on the top when it's dark?
