for those of you who care, I think I found a great printer at a reasonable price with all the features I'm looking for. I'm going with the Xerox Phaser 6180N. I'll let you guys know how it runs...

thanks OSFA, keep us posted

do you guys have any experiences with this model (6180N) or with similar Xerox phaser printers?

get wax not ink jet for everyday print
but for nice high quality get ink jet

I bought a Phaser 8500 for my freelance and for making personal books. I love the thing. It has been a gem for me. While the quality is sacrificed compared to an inkjet, it provides great quality for proofing and speedy output. I would recommend this printer. It does exceed your budget!

bump.
what did you end up getting OSFA?Merritt, is the 2 sided version worth the xtra money?
- Rand0
is solid ink better than toner?
is the 8500 good as a black and white printer as well?

we've got this at work and i've been pleased with it: http://accessories.us.dell.com/s…
i wouldn't use it for hard proofing colors (get an inkjet) but it's great for comps.

Oh! I forgot. I bought the Xerox 6180N, it is a beaut and runs awesome. I had the option of spending a little extra money (I believe $100 more) for the double-side able 6180DN, but I really don't need that feature.
The price is great considering it's only a little bit more than the rest of laser printers you can buy at WalMart, Costco or Office Depot.
I had to find an authorized Xerox dealer and am completely satisfied with the product and service.

i have the cannon mp600--- and, for an inkjet, it works well enough for this underfunded college kid
just don't buy an hp...when I am at work their products always get returned

oh and yes, my next purchase will be a nice inkjet for better proofing and larger prints. I've been a fan of EPSON for a while and love the quality of their printers. I will let you guys know...

pros and cons of 8500 vs 6100?
anyone?

epson inkjets are shit. i've had 2 which bought the farm in less than 6 months and the heads on my friends are clogged and uselss after only a year of use. i've had a canon that does up to 13" wide and it's going strong after 3 years still.

I have an epson inkjet, and even though the output is great, it's just too slow and too much hassle to bother with... I'd like something fast and dependable
- OSFA0
hhhmmm interesting. Thanks for the comments. Any other suggestions for good inkjets?
