i got final scratch when it first came out but then never used it. it remained in its box cos when it first came out you had to backup and partition your comp or something and i always had imortant work on my comp so never got round to it.
i sold it still in the box a couple of yeags later and bought myself a microkorg.
i dont really do mixing anymore, flatmate has some technics which i arse about on sometimes. if i was doing stuff with mp3s though, i'd probably just learn how to use the djing side of ableton as i use that for music-making at the moment anyways.
you can get some good hands-on dj controllers for it :)

If I had to equate Djing equipment to Design apps...
Technics = Photoshop
Serato = Indesign
Final Scratch = Quark XpressI too had Final Scratch when it first came out and loved it. I've been out of the loop for a while but you can't go wrong with either Serato or Final Scratch. But definitely save up for Technics. Their the standard. As someone suggested eBay is good for used Technics.
Stop by your local DJ store they will either have either or on display for customers to test out.

also for decks check out ebay or your local shoppers guide for people selling used gear. I bought my tech 12's from ebay like 6 years ago and they are great. Technics can take a beating
