MTV are a bunch of pansies! That all flash site was a technical masterpiece. It showed the potential of Flash and showed people that large content driven sites can be built in all Flash. They folded cause of bunch of lame ass MTV fans complained and instead of adjusting the Flash version to make it better they went ahead and hacked together a lame ass HTML version that looks like a terrible myspace page.
Your programming sucks and now so does your damn site. YOU SUCK MTV!

hey um, loudmouth.
shhhh.mtv knows more than you about everything they do
- oldelpaso0
im guessing FI didnt do this new one :p
well at least theyve ditched black!
i fuking hate content right websites that use black an overly dark palette... its good in small doses.. but crazy flash+loads of content+sniny reflections+dead black colors scheme = headache
yeah it was a cool flash thing but ... mehh!..
- heavyt0
that flash mess was horrible.
seems gratiuitous to do a site that big as 100% flash. Search no work, bookmarks no work, SEO no work, etc.ps. get over it

i love Flash... but i hated that Flash site for MTV...
... it was a 'failure' in my opinion as they didn't open it up to fill out the screen... instead - they jammed it all into a 'boxed-in' interface which (in my opinion) defeats the useful aspects of a 'full-browser' Flash site.
This new HTML site is mediocre at best... i think i saw a comment from one user on that blog saying it felt like a 'myspace' page... I'd have to agree w/that assessment.

good.
that was an example of bad flash.

well, considering that, if I had to gamble, the majority of their demographics has a mySpace page, I think it's a pretty good call going with that look.

good point, joy... although it's a bummer that bad design (subjectively speaking of course) is carried over to something else simply because the sheep are pre-trained.
... i'd like to see them take another shot a flash site.
- joyride0
yeah I hear ya, it's not the greatest, but mtv just follows the trends/ratings/money. I can't remember the last time I actually saw a music video on that channel.

The flash site sucked. You can't squeeze all of that content into a tiny little flash window. The HTML version looks bad but at least it works. I couldnt find a damn thing on the Flash version and it didn't work 50% of the time.

I loved on the old site how your search term turned into your header. That was a great piece of design.

(Apr 24 07, 19:18)really? sounds very design elitest to me.
good design is that which is easily read and navigated by the end user, not what makes a bunch of pixel pushers wet in the panties

the oldschool uk mtv site was the best...
innovative navigation.different sitemap.intriguing.annoying.3d.p... colors.soundscape.it pretty much had it all...and i'm serious. i loved that site.
went to the "newish" flash site once. meh.

pony, i wasn't taking a jab at you personally, sorry if it came across like that, just seems to be part of the problem in what we do. there is a fine line between boring, useful, and snazzy.
i guess what i'm saying is the delivery of information, (imo) shouldn't be overshadowed by the designers artistic expression
- PonyBoy0
v5... no worries... ;)
You'll note that my posts clearly point out that it's 'pony's 'pinion'...
... I agree w/you completely and am definitely speaking from a peer-biased point of view as I am a 'pixel pusher' of sorts and I do enjoy 'the flash'... making it and playing w/it...
... myspace on the other hand is 'ugly' - but getting around it isn't difficult to figure out... it's just loaded w/content and ads - and this is my opinion again - but anytime you're stuck w/that much content and 3rd party advertising/promos... things often look... or have potential of becoming 'ugly'... no matter how hard you try to contain some method of form & function.

i know FI did the flash site... anyone know who did the new HTML version? (i would hope FI didn't do anything that horrible, overly typical and boring!)
- son0
i liked the black one
- urban100
yep... i would much rather prefer the fi version. this new one is crap, and by reading the comments on their blog i'm not the only one with that opinion.....
- urban100
err...fi = black version
- son0
i just dont like colors too much anymore, i'ma an all black kinda guy this circa
- duba0
flash, html... who cares? the new one looks like a site from a template...
