miko - I totally agree with you. most of your last statement is true and right.
but it's not just the meat industry that has that effect on the planet and on us...
what about the computer you're using right now.
if you take such a hard-line stance on eating meat, for the reasons you mentioned, then what about all the other human activity that negatively effects us?
where do you draw the line?

veggie since 1999.
i used to hate veggie dogs. now, i love 'em. they have 4x the protein as animal ones, no cholesterol, and no fat. and with cat's blood, yellow mustard, (and if i'm feeling extra dutchie, some mayo) and wammo, yum diggity.

have fun eating your "tofurky jerky and mock lobster".

I had a decent tofu sausage once.
Doesnt mayo have lard in it?
- Milan0
jk, respekk for that move
- mrdobolina0
I mean eggs, not lard in mayo, the condiment, not the nt'er.

it's true there are many things about our society that needs to be corrected.
you can be a meat eater and still be socially - ecologically aware adn responsible.
but - if you want to - keep fighting that american meat industry. it's a good fight.

absolutely my footprint also includes my computer, clothes, house, power consumption etc, but by far the biggest change one can make is changing your diet/agri-impact because it's something you contribute many many times a day, whereas I only buy a computer every few years, and try to recycle the old one..
My own theory on omniverousnous is that along with the development of our neocortex, and the ability to plan, predict and control our evnironment with crop production, fire use, land management, came a back up - in that, were our crops to fail, we can survive by eating meat. The body runs better without meat, but with meat is better than starvation.
