Glass Ceiling?

I don't necessarily agree who those comments that suggest people are just imagining the glass ceiling. The situation is more complex than this post, but there is a reason why women are more disrespected in certain workplaces. Just as men are disrespected in some places. It's not just imagined, and it's not always the fault of the person getting treated poorly.
Of course I still think people shouldn't complain and just keep aiming for the top. That's not the point.

canuck, working w/lots of women is not indicative of the glass ceiling being there or not. IMO, the ceiling only exists after a certain level of experience or responsibility. it's getting PAST certain levels, usually higher ones, which can be difficult.
but i agree w/what many women say...it's never an excuse. it can be annoying and frustrating sometimes, but in my line of work i've never perceived it to be impenetrable.

I think there can be a glass ceiling not so much because people blindly discriminate against women, I think it has more to do with expecting everyone in the office to act the same way...aka like a man. I am all for being assertive and not letting people walk all over me, but I find it annoying that women have to be "bitches" to get ahead. There are differences in the sexes and they have to be acceptable in the workplace. It is still very man-centric in that way.

^ what sputnik said.

yeah, the qualities that you're talking about Barb, would be deemed as "manly" in the workplace, or just excessively bitchy. which annoys me too, but I guess that's the way you have to go about most things if you want to get higher.

---------------------i suppose, i call it being agressive [in a good way], not sure if i care what others are deeming it as...
yes, you get me now! ppl who sit idley by and wait for shit to happen for them, will never get it. i know ppl of both sexes guilty of this.
it's 2007, blaming it on the "boys club" is lazy.
