for anyone to sit back and justify to themselves there is not a glass ceiling for women in the U.S. corporate workplace, regardless of profession/industry, is a joke.
it is such by the very model that defines them as being corporate institutions. equality between the sexes is in direct opposition with the goals of maintaining the hegemonic order of said institutions.
just my opinions, of course.

(Mar 27 07, 08:08)yup, and Shari's right about there being situations of both kinds. some are better for men, some are better for women.
Although I'd like it to be more equity (not necessarily equality), it's a VERY complex and difficult issue to discuss.
I agree with vespa also about waiting for permission.

Also, I don't think this issue is about complaining as some people here seem to believe. It's about discussing the issue and making people realize that it actually is there. Awareness, basically.
Personally, I haven't had major issues finding a job, and I could be considered a minority too. I did think about the fact that I could've been hired to meet the quotas for a certain company, but I've gotten lots of feedback about my work and could tell that it wasn't about quotas. It was about my work, which I completely appreciate and that's the way it should be. The glass ceiling has less of a presence in the design industry but it's still there in the majority of places.

if you think it's there, than it is.

which is why i requested you don't curse at me .. kind of an inside joke if you will.
the glass ceiling may be a myth but i would rather fight and work toward something like a greater title when there are people i respect and want to work hard for. not have an uphill potentially legal battle trying to force this to happen.

it's there, but it can be broken. i know i have to work harder than men to prove my worth and skill...that's just a fact. i've been doing this for 10 years and i still get the occasional stuffy old dude who won't really look at me when i talk, or who will ask a male sitting next to me the questions i answer.
sometimes it's funny, mostly it's irritating. it's the same way i feel when people talk to me about "my husband's" truck. it never dawns on them that it might be mine.
