I actually think I lose more like 3 1/2 K.
I already have 21k of work going on elsewhere...
Problem is - THIS 6 month contract to a certain extent is a GREAT job

I would really push the fact at just how much you would welcome the oppurtunity to work on this exciting project for six months, but hold firm on the ££ side and really push (in a very nice way) the fact that they are getting exceptional value for money for what you will do for them and enthusiasm you will bring to it. Try and build worth, if they are decent and know you skills they should wise up to them paying you 3k extra might just equate to a happier and more productive person to have on board.... my 2p

I have a problem too!
The taps in my kitchen are solid 24karatgold. I like the look of them but they are a nightmare for my maid to get clean.
What should i do :(
- karlo0
Come on seriously...
This is a fookin nightmare for me...
I REALLY dont know what to do...
Does anyone take a 3 1/2 k a month pay cut??
Or to word it better...
Would you ever consider taking a 50-60% paycut..?

to what extent do they have you by the balls? is this your only option for freelance contract work or could you tell them to swivel and jump ship?
maybe they've gone in at their ideal world figure and you can get them up in negotiation...

The way to work it out is to work out how much it costs to find an deliver your service.
If for a 6 month period, to generate 30k worth of business, it costs you 10k in costs (comprised of time not working, advertising, plus costs of dong the work) then you profit will 20k
Compare that to how much you would earn at you reduced rate.
If it less, then don't do it. If its about the same, then 6 months of guarantueed work at this lower rate will work out what you would expect to earn in this 6 month period anyway.

Karlo. You won't be losing £3,500 a month you'll be losing £334.00, which in the grand scheme of things isn't a lot.
Haydesign, +1

simple, outsource the job and go find other work.
and all they are doing is buying your service at a reduced rate for a guaranteed 6 months. otherwise known as a Retainer. I'd rather have that then month to month. Because you can still seek/do other work. you can always ask for more money for the 6 months
