they're dropping 18 care packages in strategic spots.
"include a bright orange sweatshirt, sweat pants, a large wool blanket, socks, gloves, waterproof bib overalls, three half-hour flares, a flashlight, a handwarmer, a MRE (meal ready to eat) and a personal letter from the family"
they should just put these things out there anyway for other people who get lost in the woods.

been thinking about this since the thread started...
if he's so smart and strong willed, how come he didn't know...
"If the lost party does not move, this provides the greatest chance of a find. If he or she hikes off, the search area becomes much larger and the task far more difficult."
that's what i was told growing up with my family

my prayers go out to his family and friends.

for the person who stated this earlier...
"The 2005-2007 state highway map distributed by the Oregon Department of Transportation has a warning in red print, inside a red box: "This route closed in winter." A Rand-McNally map did not have a similar warning."

(Dec 6 06, 12:42)yes. melt snow and drink warm water. eating snow takes so much body energy out and it weakens the body even more.
- version30
true flav, it does take caloric energy to warm the water to an acceptable temperature for the body to absord

Damn shame. :(
Although I must say, even though we don't have the full details, a lot of things that took place don't seem to make very much sense.
