I know I posted about this the other week, however, am keen to buy this propery on Valley Road near the Common but would have to use Streatham station.
Me and the wife went for a walk around there last night and FUCK ME its rough.
Around the property is OK but 5 mind down the road where Stratham Station is - I was not impressed.
I was shitting myself nevermind the wife!!
Is Stratham Common station ie Greyhound Lane a nicer area/ station to walk to/from??
This property is AMAZING and and mean AMAZING but cant be shitting yourself everytime you come out of the station... My diaper bill would exceed my mortgage!!!
What are your thoughts on Streatham and Streatham Common (not Streatham Hill).
I appreciate your comments

Cant be that bad.

A friend of mine used to work that pub before the refit. Boy was it a dive...
I just pass through Streatham station, but to be honest they're all dodgy as fuck in this area. I live around gipsy hill and people are always being mugged and shit. Before I lived in Tulse Hill and that was just as bad.

Jesus! Maybe I should just rent forever in Wimbledon!!!
:(

Nowhere's safe really.
Some guy got shot dead in Shoreditch on Saturday in Jam Bar. Add to that, another fatal shooting in Stoke Newington on the same day.

what a cheery monday this is!
you can check crime rates in london boroughs here:
http://www.met.police.uk/crimefi…you can even search by types of crime. If you're a member of the BNP you may want find an area with a high rate of racist attacks!

St. Reatham is an utter shithole, I used to live by Streatham Hill, worst place I have ever lived by far, and I've lived in Dalston, Whitechapel and Hackney.
As moth will tell you, the whole of south London is dire.

yeh blood that is de ghetto!! mans got stabbed the face there recently!!

I have to say round by the Common isn't too bad - a mate lived of Greyhound Lane for years and got no issues. The Waterfront and the Station are two pretty good pubs with a good crowd.
Common is a lot better than hill, that's for sure.
- moth0
i wouldn't say south is dire - it has its' good points, one of which for me is that it's quieter, but that again makes it good for committing crime.
I don't actually hear of as much crime in Streatham as I do for Norwood/Upper Norwood (where I live) and Croyden.

it's really not that bad. anywhere that mortals can afford to buy is bound to be either in zone 4 or be subject to the occasional violent crime. streatham is in the gentrification upswing and will soon be clad in bugaboos, attentive young fathers and caffe neros.
- moth0
gentrification?
streatham? Is that what the estate agents are saying these days?
In Crystal palace on the main road approach there are welcome signs to Dulwich and Lambeth - only one of these is right.

I love that off licence in streatham where you can see the booze but cant touch, as the entire shop is double cased in bullet-proof glass - real nice.
:/
- vespa0
haha our off licence used to have that glass, it was one of the clues we had that the area wasn't *really* Maida Vale. but it's all fine! sure there are crack addicts and whores and drunks and vagrants and other wanton human examples of a wayward approach to shared social values but isn't that just... London? i'd feel much more uncomfortable in sloane square.

(Nov 20 06, 04:52)haha, pretty much all the off liscenses in liverpool I ever went to had that glass.

so gordy you reckon it aint that bad??
When we walked from the property to the common and the youngs pub next to the waterfront - I was in 100 percent... Then I had the brainwave - lets walk to Streatham Station and see how long it takes to walk back to the property...
By the fuck I am glad I did!!
I cant tell you how unsafe I felt.
Never felt that in LONDON before...
I was wondering that if we used Streatham Common station and walked up greyhound lane to the common that might be better...
We have looked at property in Wimbledon, Colliers Wood, Tooting, Earlsfield... you get the idea - we cant afford it 250 buys you a box
Streatham is affordable but personally looks rough as fuck and not only would I be concerned for my saftey but the wifes aswell
I dont think I could cope with double pressure!!!
Come on boys - help me decide...

your wife will love you when she has to walk through that dark graffed up underpass on a winters evening.

(Nov 20 06, 05:28)surely the danger is that someone else will 'love' his wife when she walks through that underpass.
