okay, so i've got quite a few emails about the possibility of starting an nt photo exchange. so let's get it started since it's the weekend and you all ain't got shit to do! (kidding of course...since most also got to work the weekends :)
so what do you say? anyone that wants to take part post here and maybe even shoot me an email so we can gather a list.
basically two major things that should be considered first though:
1. since we have seen to too many get burned in the NTPE by lame ducks not sending shit to other participants, while at the same time still reaping the goods...maybe it should be more of a one-on-one photo exchange with another member here. that way there really can't be any excuses as far as shipping costs / time constraints / etc. etc. that we have all heard.
basically if you can't print one fucking photo and come up with the cash to send that one photo somewhere do us all a favor and don't sign up.
now going back to that one-on-one exchange thing. i think that once people send each other photos then they can be put back on the list and re-partnered up with someone else and so the cycle continues. does that make sense? i think it's a much safer way to insure people will actually get something in return, and also let's them bow-out at any time (after they send their photo once paired of course) if the unforseen occurs (ie no time / money).
2. the size / production of the print. i'm not really sure about this.
i definately think that the photo should just be a photo. no photoshop work that distorts the original image (of course this does not mean no color correcting / levels correcting / cropping etc) but you know what i mean. no fucking filters, image piecing, etc. etc. it is after all a PHOTO exchange.
as far as being a digital print or a an actual print from film doesn't really matter. it would be golden if everyone sent out an actual film print, but that would be a pipe dream. i shoot both film and digital and i'm 75% sure i will send out a photo that comes from my digital camera : )
i think that it would be nice to set a size that all prints should be like 8x8 or something (just because i can already see my perfect grid structure wall of photos from around the world all nicely framed in...dare i say ikea! frames).
okay this is getting really long! thanks for reading if you got this far! i know there are things i didn't even go over but i just wanted to get something on here.

yeah maybe simplify the rules too
id be interested for sure.
- lvl_130
okay, getting somewhere now. send me a mail p. i'm never on aim anymore 'cause the shit crashes all the time on my lappy : /
- Jaline0
It's a bit complicated and could be refined but your rules make sense.
- mrdobolina0
just have nt profile name and an email address and everyone makes their own deals.
then the people involved have only themselves to blame if they get punked out.
That is how I think ntpe should work.
- lvl_130
yeah jaline, totally agree.
dobs, i agree to an extent, but i feel it needs some sort of effort to create an actual trade community within, and an actual partnership to get anything traded. if i understand you correctly.
- OSFA0
I agree, a little tweaking and we're ready. I am totally interested lvl.
I also think we should have an established trade community that can organize things and make sure things run smoothly. (hahahah!)Count me in.

I heart NTPE

set up a bittorrent tracker with community....?
- paraselene0
i think that's sound. count me in! i may not be able to get into the darkroom until january, though, so if that means count me out until the next round, so be it.
i've just got an old pentax k1000 and i've been shooting on it a bit. hopefully there'll be some nice shots. i'd much rather do actual prints, myself. maybe hook the digis up with the digis and the darkrooms up with the darkrooms?
i know who'll take longer, anyway...
;)

Put me down for sure. I have a huge collection of darkroom prints from over the last couple years that I think are really good. I like your idea of the continuing one on one exchange too. Much easier than printing and mailing 30 at once. On the size I am not liking the 8*8 thing though since it is a non-standard size and a lot of us may have to redo our prints to fit that.
- lvl_130
yeah, i agree with that. i just threw a size out there becuase it could be nice to have a standard. by no means do we have to go with 8x8. should we just stick with something more conventional (ie. 8x10)?
- doesnotexist0
how about just any photo?
some of us do digital, some do polaroids, some do crazy big ones. i think it'd be neat to be surprised one what kind of photo im going to get.
- slappy0
I find it really hard to get onboard these things as Im 12 hours ahead of most of you guys. If we could do some sort of email signup I would be 100% in.
I love photography and would love to be in this.
- slappy0
Sorry for the double post but I think a standard size is a good idea. If anyone is like me they might want to throw prints into groups in large frames that run down their hallway :)
- joyride0
count me in, I'd be proud to put up a bunch of stuff from my NT friends. Cool conversation piece!
*sniff sniff - so proud of my lil' community
- seed0
I agree with what dne said about the size and photo type.
- K_Fresh0
I'm in too! I've got enough trade-worthy shots, so I'm ready to go.
I totally agree with 1 standard size. I think a row of 8x10s would look great in my place, rather than a bunch of random sizes.
We could set up a registry online or we could even handle this through an email list to keep things simple.
- doesnotexist0
say no to standard sizes and formats!
