The new Darren Aronofsky film:
http://thefountainmovie.warnerbr…
Visually it looks interesting, but it's been six years since Requiem for a Dream, and I'm not sold on the preview. That ring worries me.
I hope I'm wrong though, because in my opinion, outside of Wes Anderson and perhaps PT Anderson, there's not a more interesting American director.

i'm still intrigued...like i am by 300, all the while knowing all but the effects might be weak.
wes anderson's my favourite

(Oct 26 06, 17:08)that's exactly what I was thinking. And I love Hugh Jackman and Aranofsky so I'm definitely watching it.

well i thought the same, yet i was a little disappointed, sorry to say. to much mushy mushy and yes that ring came up one to many times.
maybe next time...

The Fountain was, above all, a love story. No question about that.
The "ring" is actually a spaceship from the 26th century. I wished they would have made that a lot clearer in the movie.
Regardless, I really enjoyed the movie and definitely recommend it to everyone here. I like how a lot of the meaning is left as an exercise to the viewer. The story can be interpreted in so many ways on so many different levels.

ahhh, this was supposed to have Cate Blanchlet and Brad Pitt in it as the leads I think but both couldnt commit due to other filming commitments. Think I would have preffered that cast better :)

Just returned from another stunning Aronofsky film.
I took 2 friends who had never seen one of his films and it was a bit out there for them, but i explained a few points to them and they understood a bit better, I actually think this one can be a bit over thought if your not careful.

Oh and Clint Mansell's soundtrack is amazing as always.

Okay, I'm going to see it tomorrow evening, despite the following review seeming to confirm my worst fears:

Soundtrack to the fountain is amazing. Mogwai, clint mansell and someone else together = fantastic.

it's my new favorite movie. disregard the reviews. the reviewers who didnt get it ended up hating it. those who got it loved it. the movie is visually stunning and very well made. the soundtrack is brilliant and so is the concept.

The movie was much more than a simple love story.

You've all made me want to see it now and I'm almost positive I'll like this type of film. So I'll check it out within the next few days...

kj, that sfgate review is awful. yes, the movie is confusing and perhaps as ambitious as 2001: Space Odyssey but in many ways it's much much simpler. it is clear from the review that the guy did not understand it.
the only thing that makes the movie confusing is a small missing link and that is left for audiences to figure out on purpose. and that is precisely what makes this movie work (for me). for others, the missing link will be the reason that they will end up disliking it.
i was able to figure things out without the aid of recreational drugs and left the theater amazed, and discussed it with my friends for another couple of days.

I loved the movie and agree that it is visually stunning. Parts were a little too "new-agey" for my liking, but I definitely enjoyed it.
