right, but i'd bet that they learned on good cameras.
Eggleston's first camera was a Canon range finder, no piece of crap that was. I would be willing to bet he moved to Leica ($3,000) or something comparable in later life.
Stieglitz was turn of the century, he helped show us the way.. tech was pretty low then.
Adams, are you kidding? Low res? That's just silly talk. :P
I'm just saying that you can say that a good photographer negates the camera... but good photographers use good cameras

"Leica, schmeica. The camera doesn't make a bit of difference. All of them can record what you are seeing. But, you have to SEE."
-Ernst Haas
"Any good modern lens is corrected for maximum definition at the larger stops. Using a small stop only increases depth..."
-Ansel Adams, June 3, 1937,
"Photographers — idiots, of which there are so many — say, “Oh, if only I had a Nikon or a Leica, I could make great photographs.” That’s the dumbest thing I ever heard in my life. It’s nothing but a matter of seeing, thinking, and interest. That’s what makes a good photograph. And then rejecting anything that would be bad for the picture. The wrong light, the wrong background, time and so on. Just don’t do it, not matter how beautiful the subject is."

all very true scoops
i guess what im saying is that if an image is striking enough the final res of an image is not very important
and trust me - every adams print ive seen look sshockingly blurry considering all the hype around his name. its the tonal range that really make his prints.

what's the point of a rangefinder camera?
- Sickman0
no mirror behind the lens. with that extra room they do different things to the lens - and in some cases make them ALOT sharper
their also "whisper quite" - whatever
- Rand0
it seems like the drawbacks outwiegh the dvantages, especially when the new leica is 5 grand or something
- Sickman0
their drawback is that they use matsushita sensors and just put a leica sticker on the body. they have lost all credibility in my eyes

yeas, well, the leica digital is a whole other matter all together.
that *is* an example of stupid consumerism. A film leica can last generations (mine is from 1936 and still works) that thing will be obsolete in less than a year.

the M8?

yeah, totally no worth it.
- Sickman0
their not selling cameras anymore - just leica stickers :)

Any advice on a good book on photography (...for beginners). Taking you through meters, lenses, ??mm, fullframe, depth, focus, lighting etc etc
Really want to get into photography, but don't have time for a course.
Thanks
