Ok so I wiped my MacBook Pro on Saturday in order to have a clean machine...
2 gig of RAM
All legit softwareStill saying 'out of memory' in InDesign when I try to write a 50 MEG file.
When I do it on my non intel Imac - it works like a dream

I have a macbook pro w/ 2 gb ram and have never had that problem, have you downloaded a system diagnostic widget to see how its running before you launch indesign, there could be a problem somewhere else.

i have run all that software - I think...
Tell me more anout the widget please
Are you on MSN or anything so I can run a couple of things by you??

the out of memory error when saving refers to a hard disk, not ram. make sure your start up disk is cool and check your prferences in indesign, make sure you have it set to the startup disk.

I'm having the same problem with mine, though it's saying that when I'm placing something in Illustator. Apparently, these Macbook Pros get really hot and simply turning it off and letting it cool down works well.

I know mine gets fire hot but ive never had it turn off, and give me errors when i want to save. the widget can be found off the apple widget site , just use find on here and type widget theres a few articles on them.

Get a PC ???
(check your virtual memory settings, check InDesign's scratch disk/cache settings ... if it has them like Photoshop does..)
Other than that, I don't know what to try...
Possible faulty memory chip. Remember your computer CAN still run even with a bad stick of RAM, but when a program that's very taxing on RAM starts accessing it like a fat kid on a donut....you could run into trouble.
I don't know if there's any way to test on a Mac for bad ram...I'm sure there's some utility.

Talking about the getting HOT issue...
I watched two episodes of LOST the other night in bed.
When I had finsihed watching looked to do research on internet about what i had just watched...
My internet wouldnt work...
Apparently I had no airport card installed!!?!?!??!
I turned it off and went to sleep
Next morning when it had cooled down...
The airport card had been magically replaced by the pixies!!
New macs eh - bag o shite...

Mac started going the route of Microsoft.... "Make it magically break for no good reason so they have to buy a new one"
I think that was their missing business strategy, they'll definitely make more money now.

people on the show couldn't reach their airport either.. it's a new feature, not coincidence

Wasn't there an article that said a lot of the problem was that CS2 didn't jive well with the intel chip?

if you've got a new mbp, it's probably still under warranty then. i leave mine running almost non stop, charging most of the time, and i have not even come close to having the heat related problems everyone else seems to be having. do you have ac in your place? do you live in the deep south?
