so, who did what anyway? i'm confused.

we did the barber osgerby site... he contacted us saying he liked it and could we duplicate it... we said no... but we could do something along the same lines but different... he said we should charge as much as we did as we were going to (one days work!)... various arguments on the phone... he went away and got some smuck to just duplicate it... sad fucker (both of them)
- Engage0
sorry... that should of said... he thought we shouldn't charge 500 quid because we'd already done the site... he didn't get it that we weren't prepared to just rip it off! even though we did it...
- Witt0
ah! now i get it... i think.
Engage, your example just reminds me that one should linger a bit more about what's down on contracts, and the juridic entity of what a website is, copyrights, etc. i don't know how's it going on in England but down here making a website = making a poster. like, face value.
i think EU legislation is not coping with new forms of production. too general law afaik.

After graduating with a B.A. Hons in Graphic Design and collaborating with Peter Saville Associates, Julian Morey has worked independently as a freelance designer since 1991 for clients like Pentagram, Graphic Thought Facility, Pompidou Centre and Wired. He then decided to screw over Engage by asking them to rip off a site off they had done for Barber Osgerby http://www.barberosgerby.com/old… , and when they refused... ripped them off anyay... thiefing bastard.

Subject: Re: siteHi James
I am really loving the site you designed for barberosgerby (http://www.barberosgerby).
I wanted to ask you a couple of questions.
When I design a site what size should the page area be? I’ve had various recommendations. What size is the barberosgerby one?
The second question is would you be interested in putting something together for, a JulianMorey graphic design site.
I’d be totally happy with a site that was same layout and interactivity as the barberosgerby one. Of course there might eb a few small details to change, like colours of the type and typeface etc. But would this be a problem for you and Barber Osgerby? Obviously they’ve paid for you to develop something unique and of course you don’t want to repeat yourself (to often), but I just thought this is so close to what I had in mind I’d mention it.
I really want to keep the cost down so I would be really up for doing most of the leg work in terms of producing gifs/content, all the bits basically and then for you to implement it into something you already have set up. But I don’t know if that would appeal to you? May be it doesn’t sound creative eneough.
The contents for mysite.com is a lot more interesting than Eklektic and Club-21 because there’s more depth to it.
I have things like:
2 Creative Review covers
Inc. 500 magazine cover
A few CD covers
Advertising for Diesel
Logotypes – lot’s of logotypes for companies – including a recent one for Giorgio Armani!
I am working through a list of things I’ve done, but want to keep it down below 20 of the best pieces, but possibly more like 12 to 16.So lot’s of good quality stuff for content.
If I have not already I should send you my little brochure I published 2 years ago (abc–xyz). Really the site should be a continuation of what I did with this 2 years ago. There is some nice overprinting on the cover – and may be there is a way of implementing that idea into the design.
Also you might want to advise me about naming the site?
At the moment I have 2 options:
julianmorey.com / co.uk
Or
Ok, a lot to put in one email, there’s no rush on this, it would be for early year. Just wanted to see what you though.
I know I let you down on Club-21. I just never got round to finishing the gifs, but this one has to happen!
Best regards,
Jules

Its such a simple site though, while its sad that it is a rip-off, the guy clearly didnt think for a moment that it was a negative rip off, its kind of like two publishers showing off thier books on exactly the same shelves...
Maybe thats what he saw it as anyway
- set0
ya know, if web design isnt your bag, and you have no experience in it, he may simply be vewing it as a smart shelf for his books...
- Engage0
except for the fact that we developed the site over a couple fo months... and then someone who is supposed to be in a creative industry... and hasnt' hesitated in just stealing something... it takes a lot of effort and a lot of experimenting to reduce something to its simplest form.

don't get what you mean?
- jevad0

- Engage0

- Engage0
he also didn't see why he should have to pay so much because we... in his words... 'we had already done it'...
- lvl_130
lame!
did anyone inform qbn about this? engage?
- forcetwelve0
