there is a submission fee?!
you mean firms pay to have their site recognized on the favorite.website.awards?!
get out!it's all about the dolla' dolla' bills ya'll. we are all in advertising business like it or not. the idea is to sell. to sell is the idea. plain and simple.
there are some nice sites on favorite.website.awards, and there is some shit sites on the favorite.website.awards. it's really all about your poison you decide to pick.

There's about 1 decent site a month on FWA.

the same thing was the deal with macromedia. signing up as a preferred partner yielded awards.

Yeah man screw that guy Rob... he should spend his days and nights looking at crap sites for free! Why should he get paid to fucking work you know??? In fact as of today I'm going to start working for free as well... free websites for everyone you hear me?!?!?!
PS - Even if the you think FWA sucks, good luck submitting to Communication Arts, How, The Addys, Webby or any other design competition for free. Contests aren't free man.. that generate cash and get sponsors visible, that's what makes the world go around fool... design... skateboarding... singing... it's all paid entries man.

if you hosted a website that got saw over 1 million unique visitors per month, you'd need a revenue stream to pay for it too.

FWA is not a competition. It's 'I like your website' or 'I don't like your website'. I had a lot of respect for FWA when they had free submission. It was cool concept. I guess they built their user base posting nice websites that we guys do. And if they have that amount of unique visitors they should just put few more ads on the website and keep submission free. I don't think there's a team of 50 people working there needing monthly paycheck. Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway FWA is history for me, the most ignored bookmark :)
