Ok, I'm trying to decide whether to switch my folio to one page for both ease of use and me updating it (I'm not a web builder btw so I'm stretching myself)
The existing site is www.philipregan.com
My revised one page (still work in progress technically) is at
www.philipregan.com/v3Should I stay or should I go (one page)?

i think your work is outstanding. great use of colour, excellent eye for detail...etc and as individual pieces they merit being presented seperately.
your one page layout made them look cluttered and too busy. i prefered your current site (which can be improved).

Thanks for your comments bluejam. What (baring in mind my limited dreamweaver skills) would you recommend doing to improve the original?
(your site and work is pretty distinctive btw) :)

I agree with Bluejam.

I agree as well. Your work is really strong and its a shame the website is so poor to present it. The framed folio peieces and that excuse for an explanation in the bottom right corner, doesn't really cut it.

i would try both...create a different path for one pager and another for full flavoured. shop it around and see what you get as responses.
you may suprise yourself and create a new direction for your work.
i love multi pagers for the interactivity, i like to know the designer behind the site has thought of the user..
i also love one pagers, but one pagers with full flavoured interactivity is even better!!!!
just my thoughts.

(Aug 2 06, 07:53)That's the old one. Thinking of going to the other one.

keep it simple. the example below is not new, nor groundbreaking, but it might help you find the right direction...

pay someone to do it
:)

Thanks e-pill, interesting idea. I'm no web builder though so any fancy interactivity ha sto be pretty limited, but there's definitely something in your suggestion I like.
Bluejam, thanks for the advice too.

i like the v3 version.
it's nice to see all your projects next to each other.
interactivity is nice, but if there's too many choices/clicks i just sort of wander around and don't really go through it thoroughly.

Thanks Skelly. That's given more to think about as well.
AAAARGH I CAN'T MAKE UP MY SODDING MIND!!!!!
*rattles cage. picks up banana skin, throws at monitor in disgust.

I much prefer the one pager - maybe not cos its on one page, but because it gives you work and colour up front, without having to click through to anything - you could do the same with a multi page site though, of course...

I mentioned it in another thread, but I like one-pagers because most people will at least look at every project. Too many menus and they might miss some good stuff.
But I hate one-pagers that go on forever, that's pretty bad too.

ok guys, took a fresh look last night. How do they compare now;
Old;

http://www.philipregan.com/v3The sketches page isn't live yet, in case you're wondering.

v3. looks good. great work.
bookmarked.

looks good, personally, I still find having a screen I need to click on before I see anything at all not to my taste - for me you should have something below the orange bar on the homepage to start with...
but it does look good :)

1 page at a time works really well for what you are trying to show.

Page at a time.
http://www.jethrohaynes.com (which has been posted on the NTB) is a perfect example of how a simple a designers' portfolio can and should be...(in my opinion).

i dont like to click on a link to get to the choice of 1 page or full flavoured.
i think either i would like to have a nice opening large size logo graphic branding element [your eye glasses] and from that initial click i will be transported to the full flavoured.
if its a 1 pager, keep it 1 pager, and keep the full flavoured separate.
the orange bar separating the different portfolio pieces is weirdly throwing me off the think of the generic colours found on a myspace comment page.
i feel that orange doesnt match the great vibrance of the work on your site.
your work is so very excellent.
