this bus:
http://megabus.com/us/me and the girl were thinking of going to chicago and rather than driving there ourselves (from minneapolis) we were thinking of taking the bus. 2 tickets are only $100 and it says the trip is 8 hours. i've heard horror stories about greyhound bus trips but haven't heard of the megabus thing until recently (geared towards college students i think)
anyone have any insight? kona you know anyone that has taken it? thanks all!

i've used the uk megabus a few times..
never had any complaints.. you get what you pay for really.. no toilets, few stops, uncomfortable seats.. but it's cheap as chips.

I have done 24 hour rides on Greyhound before, really not that bad. Well aslong as you don't have a large person sitting next to you.

cool. thanks. wonder if the uk version is much different. it is really cheap so i was a bit scared. i'd take the amtrack train to chi-town but tickets are almost as expensive as a flight out there : \

What the f*ck is a megabus? Is it like one of those giant Russian airplanes, but like with wheels? I mean, what's mega about it?
- lvl_130
not sure what's mega about it hehe. the name is pretty sweet though.
i think it's because of the mega deals you get traveling on it, not so much the mega size of it. looks just like any touring bus

I have never been to miami and everyone I know loves it, but I have been to many other cities in that state and it is a shitpit.

we have those megabus' here in milwaukee too, but I have never even seen one. You can go the 80 miles to chicago for like 5 bucks though.

i got this in the uk only once, broke down for 3 hours, we had to sit by the side of a motorway in the rain.
But i did pay like £2 ($3) so i guess you do get what you pay for...
- paddywop0
ps - if its really cheap you'd be well advised to buy yourself 2 seats. They really are buses, not coaches...

long bustrips are the worst. i did it once. will never ever do it again, i swear.
just take a plane, it will probably take you a little over an hour for that same distance.. and you will always find cheaper flights if you keep looking..

(Jul 10 06, 08:56)LOL why do europeans (esp germans) think miami is all that cool?
a friend of mine stayed there for a few days to get away from a family reunion on the Antilles and he said it was the most boring and predictable place ever..

it only takes 6.5 hours from here to chi-town. given you'll be paying for driving inconveniences there, but over all, you are saving on money and opportunity cost. and besides, western central wisconsin is gorgeous.
- mrdobolina0
the bluffs in that part of wisconsin are really cool.

ah true. i forgot about all the roadside attractions like the giant deer and giant cheese/mouse haha!
the problem is not just the gas cost to get there though either. it's the ridiculous parking rates that really take a chunk of money. last time i just parked in a hotel parking lot and left my car there. it was $25 a day and that was the standard for everywherre in downtown.
but yeah...maybe driving there would be better. hmmm....
