just got my bike fucking stolen yesterday in broad daylight!
had it locked up through the tires and frame to a steel lampost right in front of my apartment. got home from work and it was gone! no trace of the lock or anything so i'm not even sure how they managed to steal it.
fucking people. i hope that karma catches up to those fucking chizzlers!
sorry, i'm just ranting : \
ps. craig's list is a joke. all the bikes people are trying to "sell" should just be left along side the dumpster with a big sign titled "FREE".

sucks man, was it one of those U-Locks? You can pick those with a bic pen...

I feel you, I got my basketball stolen by some little kids on Monday.... i want to exact revenge, but i need to handle the situation delicately.
- Jaline0
I remember when some kid made fun of me in middle school for having a crappy bike.
losers.

(Jun 28 06, 08:11)nah, but it was a kryptonite coil lock. i have had the lock for a while and people have tried to cut through it (when it was locked up downtown) with absolutely no success (only could get through the plastic coating).
funny thing is it that when i was in cali. i had that thing just sitting on my bike rack for days at a time. now that i am back in minneapolis it gets yanked on full lock down.

I had a pink bike growing up.
I'm not lying.
And I loved it.

(Jun 28 06, 08:18)haha, same here. that's the one I got made of for, but mainly b/c I was short and therefore my bike was really short too.

If it makes you feel any better - I've had my back tire stolen a few times. Okay, yeah, that wouldn't make me feel any better. Sorry.
- lvl_130
hehe. having your back tire would suck too. especially if you were far from your place or a bike shop.
having to walk it home in front of everyone that probably think you stole it.

I think it was any Kryptonite lock that could be picked with a Bic.
Keep your eye on Craigslist, chances are good it will show up there for sale.
- lvl_130
yeah it is the kryptonite lock that can be picked...but not the one i had. it was a combo lock not a key lock (the one that can be picked)
but good tip about the craig's list watch out! thanks and you are probably right. i really hope it does! there will be some people that'll get kicked in the neck if that is the case.

bolt cutters are a good investment for thieves so you would assume a hardened steel lock and chain would be a good investment for someone expecting to safely lock up their belongings in public
this is the kind of thing that happens in ny and sf all the time though

i tried to pick my krpto with a bic after reading about it....i couldn't do it. I guess I'm not a good crook.

sorry, man. i never leave my bike outside, ever!!
i once witnessed a bike messanger stealing another messanger's bike. he picked it up on his back and biked away. that was something to witness...

(Jun 28 06, 08:42)thanks man. yeah i wouldn't leave it outside in uptown either...the problem is i just moved back and am staying with my girlfriend in her small studio (no room for a bike) until the first of the month when i move into my own apartment : \
3 fucking days! if i could have just kept it for 3 more days it would have been safe in my new place!
oh well. as they say live and learn. i should have just kept it in my car.
then again they probably would have just broke my window to get it! damn.

Yea getting anything stolen sucks, but modus operandi seems to hurt just a little more.

Kids leave their bikes around here in the suburbs all the time, and I'm always worried that their precious bike is going to get stolen one day. But who am I kidding? the suburbs in Ottawa....yeah....right.
But I still keep my bike in the garage (or the basement in the wintertime).

That sucks dude. Do you have any used sporting goods stores near you? If so, I'd check there immediately.
When I was a kid my brother's bike was stolen, and we found it at one such shop later that day.
- lvl_130
yeah there are a couple used sports stores. i'm going to check there after work. thanks for the tips guys!

if your'e in NYC you have to lock everything up with a chain. no cable lock bullshit.
any high theft area needs a chain plus another krypto mini on the front wheel or your shit is going bye bye
