It's a huge problem, and needs to be addressed - but they do add value to the economy. Imagine how much construction, restuarants, agriculture and manufacturing WOULD cost if everyone got "union" wages - entire industries would shut down.
You think that Taco you get for lunch for $2 is a deal - imagine if everyone's wages along that entire line - from the guy that picked the peppers to the guys who packed, unpacked the trucks and the lady selling them got a "real" minimum wage? You're Taco is now $10 baby...think about it.

i don't blame them for coming to america. mexico sucks/ i grew up in a border town, seen the poverty. never really understood the mexico pride thing though.
their govt could care less

i still say it's wrong to punish them. all they're looking for is a better life. i'm an immigrant myself (still on a green card after 18 years tho), and i know the bullshit hurdles you have to get over to get here. And that was waaaay before 9-11 (and i'm from one of the desireable countries).
punish the people that hire them, if the immigrants can't find work, they'll go home and/or stop coming.

yeah no shit... trying to claim 256 million is a joke when Iraq's the biggest money sucker of them all.
I don't need to start an Iraq war thread. It is all relavent. Shutting down immigration is only a patch... it wont work. Its about education and investing in it. Just like condoms are a patch. It will never fix all problems that are a sexual thorn in this country's ass and the amount of money we spend to try to control that mess. It's all about education.

i really don't care either way.
just the mentality is kinda queer. they showed hispanic owned shops open late last night here in dallas, so those that wish not to purchase goods today could do so last night. and the stores were packed.

dumb comparison, that's entirely different and you know it.
that's just one county in CA, btw, don't forget those in Texas, NM, and AZ.
pretty lofty right? that's per 100,000 mind you.

how many illegal immigrant designers are lurking out there???
- GreedoLives0
hey that's almost a tenth of the money we've spent on iraq!

"While legal immigration is a positive influence on our culture and economy ... in public safety, health care and public social services, illegals cost county taxpayers nearly three quarters of a billion dollars a year."
yeah real smart right?

periodic backlash against immigrants are as common as solar eclipses. do what you want, there'll be another one 10-20 years down the road. this is an immigrant country, always has been, always will be. get bent out of shape all you want, it won't be fixed. if $256 million 'wasted' on needy people upset you, how about the $300 billion we've blown on iraq?
GreedoLives
(May 1 06, 10:20)well that's a reaaaaaaaaal good argument, but please take it somewhere else, start an IRAQ thread for the 250th time of you want to compare and contrast.
I'm referring to the amount that is spent on individuals who have no right being here in the first place. Just because you can fuck and shoot out a baby shouldn't entitle you to benefits on taxpayers' coin.
What kind of precedent does that set?

"What I want to make clear is the children we aid are legally eligible to be aided," Christensen said. "They are the children of undocumented parents, but they themselves are not undocumented. They were born in this country."
GreedoLives
(May 1 06, 10:15)big fucking deal, it still taxes the shit out of that county.
don't you fucking get it!?!?!

I had a taco on Saturday.

this is a VERY simple problem to fix. all you need to do is shut down these guys.

they take NO ID ever and are responsible for the most illegal means of moving cash around the world.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich said Tuesday that he will tell Congress that close to 100,000 children of illegal immigrants in the county collect $276 million in annual welfare benefits.
Antonovich, who is in Washington with the Board of Supervisors, will meet with congressional representatives and provide information about the impact of illegal immigration on county services.
Antonovich said 98,703 children of 57,458 undocumented parents received Cal-WORKS welfare checks in January, or a total of 156,161 recipients.

i mean, how are you gonna fix this? a 3000 mile long berlin wall? it'll never work.

on my way home for lunch today I counted 6 unmarked crown victorias with pretty ominous looking dudes in them, 5 cops on horses, 10 cops on bikes and more marked cars than I could keep track of.
//Hey thinman, why dont you just call them wetbacks in your next post?
- thinman0
fuck that. put the companies in jail that hire illegals and send the illegals back to their own country and let them apply through a legal process.
fucking BS
