White: Riesling, Sancerre, if I'm spending. Italian Pinot Grigio if I'm not.
Red: a heavy Bordeaux, or a good Amarone. A New Zealand Pinot Noir if on the cheap.

depends on time of year....
in the summer, the wife and I drink a lot of roses - very refreshing and quite drinkable due to lower alcohol content.Generally, we drink a lot of reds: Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Malbec. Not really into sweet wines, but love spicy. We're starting to venture into cotes de rhones.
Blends are awesome IMO, because it gives you interesting qualities of multiple grapes.
Segeshio makes fantastic Zinfandels which are modestly priced. They are an Italian family who moved to Sonoma Co, CA. We're part of the wine club, so we get 4 shipments a year of stuff you can't normally find in stores, but I've found their normal Zin pretty-much everywhere.
Lately we've been keeping inexpensive Prosecco on hand for Kir Royales, mimosas and just to enjoy on it's own. A bottle goes way too quickly.
With whites we drink primarily pinot grigio, but depending on what we're eating drink others.
Loves me some wine.

New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs are so 2012...I'm quite bored with them now. Have started to drink Riesling again which has been nice, as well as some of the Pinot blends.

Oh so good a little chilled and paired with lox or some other seafood. Sushi would be good with it too.
