Where I live now, property is as follows; Just sold my small 2 bed flat for £220k. Thats a flat remember, no garden etc. Surrounded by pond scum etc. That would buy a substantial size property in Canada... possibly even enough for a potential photographers location. Plus, need to start my little boys education in the next 2 years. I would like for him to be able to read when he's all grown up and Canada seems to have one of the highest literacy rates in the world. Damn I keep forgetting those arguments. Anyway, the forms are off, the moneys spent, and we can't wait. Thanks for all your comments. It's been interesting.
Mr Snuggles, I'm sorry you're treated like a Cheltenham Average everywhere.

nae good sir, we're treated like chav scum everywhere. Trust me, i came to Holland from Canada for 'Dutch design' and it's just a fallacy. The only thing I can say is, don't expect the industry to be drastically different anywhere in the world. If you wanna go to Canada, do it out of desire for a change of pace and scenery and not anything else. Obviously it'll help you gain a different perspective on things and even may help you see the positive sides of the UK. I know that's happened for me, I have a new view on Canada, after finally managing to get out of there...

it is not.
Moving to canada is a good way to sneak into the united states though... the boarders are like a sieve.

One thing I haven't explained and maybe some people can back me up on this but, personally, there seems to be very little respect for people in who work in aspects of our profession (ie Graphics, design, art, illustration, web design etc), in the UK unless you happen to work for those agencies who have managed to get themselves a good rep. I've heard that as a profession, it's much more respected and recognised as a professional skill over the pond.

Don't get it, uber, can you explain?

Don't get me wrong, I love Canada, and I've lived here all my life, but I've always wanted to go to the UK. Why is it that people are so intent on coming to Canada? Is there something I don't know about the UK?
- Cactus0
Ha!

(Apr 20 06, 05:57)Unfortunately, many of your countrymen don't feel that way. Perhaps it is only the educated one's that are moving here.

There are alot (I mean alot) of Canadians there.

I've not emigrated yet but still have an open application. Cost me a fortune (close to £4000 including all fees), there's currently a 36 month application processing time and the paperwork you need is extensive and can take months to collect. I've still got 2 years to wait yet, and since I've split with my ex my application might have to be altered which might result in it being taken out of the queue and stuck back on the end with another 36 month wait.
Apart from that, I've not done anything about going to Canada yet, won't think about it until nearer the time (if i can/still want to go).
If you've got any questions try these guys, met a few of them in Edinburgh, really nice and very helpful. Check out the forums.
