Both Panasonic DVX100 and Canon's XL2 are great. Prefer Pana.

haha 24P is a technology that shoots video at 24 FPS rather than the older, DV feel of 29.97.
it has a "film" quality to it. (think film vs. your daily news broadcast)
i havent had much time to play with the new panasonic 24P HD camera yet... i would have to rent it for a few days and run it through all the hoops, but 60 FPS looks AMAZING for action sports, which i do...

I've been hearing that Panasonic basically has the market on lock. I'm deciding whether to do 24p HD or SD right now... Panasonic still running the HD too with the AG-HVX200? Anyone have experience?

I see this question come up a lot and I wonder if renting is a better idea for the beginners.
Thoughts, pr2?
I am also assuming it would be for making movies.

keep in mind the real limitation of the Pana DVX100B is the lens. you can't change it like an XL system can, nor is it as good, so make sure and budget in a .65 wide-angle adapter and a telephoto adapter. they pop on right infront of the lens. imo that will give you broader versatility.

good point robotron3k

If you are purchasing, you might want to wait to see what happens with the next generation of the consumer HD cams. Price will go down, more improvements, etc.
But the DVX100 is pretty remarkable.

The AG-HVX200 looks like it could be a damn fine camera. The P2 cards and its ability to record in all the formats seems ideal.

I would stay away from HDV cameras that the format is really cmopressed -- besicaly it's trying to cram 4 times the amount of resolution into the same bandwith standra resolution signal went. It's a different compression scheme but still sometimes the footage looks great and sometimes not really.
DVX100 is a workhorse still it all depends on the project or anything serous we always rent. I own DVX100 but for higher end SD we rent SDX900 and for real HD we rent Varicam or CineAlta. That said though if you gota great content even shit shot with your cell phone peple will watch.

all those prosumer HD cameras are trying to pull the Hd image from a sensor that was never meant to create such hugh image thus images will look really noisy. I wouldn't mind having one of those HVX200 for myself but not that this price 10g for camera and p2 cards is too much for the quality you are getting.

Listen to pr2
With good content, good story, etc...format is invisible.

Basically its for an ad agency to be able to shoot some of our own footage for internal videos for clients, i.e. office footage, factory footage, for Brand or sales videos, fillers in ripomatics... So is it true that the HD in the HVX200 is somewhat inferior to the more expensive cameras? To the point that it isn't worth the extra $3k above the DVX100B? Would you say go for the DVX100B then rent an HD when it's absolutely necessary?
Thanks for all your help!

hi
Just recently shot a commercial on the JVC GY-HD100 in 720 24p mode.
It was a real pain to get the rushes digitized in final cut as 24p is still not supported.
I finally was able to do it using lumiereHD which is a capture soft that handles 24p.
The image quality is amazing. We shot in 24p because we shot for cinema. The blow up looks very good.
I could only recommend shooting on HDV. The image quality is really great for that price. Just make sure you plan your post before you start the project.
I would suggest you have a look at the new P2. It does 1080p!! I saw the camera at cameraimage. Top at the moment in that price category.

Yes do that.
Spend the leftover cash on decent lighting equipment.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

-----------We rent lighting anyways, and money isn't that much of an issue. but if the real word is that the HVX200 simply isn't worth the extra 3k I'll trust u .

24p?
- pr20
if money isn't the issue then yeah go with HVX200. It has higher res (something people will notice) at an expense off higher noise (somthing people will notice only after you point it out to thyem).
