I would stay away from HDV cameras that the format is really cmopressed -- besicaly it's trying to cram 4 times the amount of resolution into the same bandwith standra resolution signal went. It's a different compression scheme but still sometimes the footage looks great and sometimes not really.
DVX100 is a workhorse still it all depends on the project or anything serous we always rent. I own DVX100 but for higher end SD we rent SDX900 and for real HD we rent Varicam or CineAlta. That said though if you gota great content even shit shot with your cell phone peple will watch.
