Hi everyone,
I've got an idea for my stuio but don't know if it's possible, maybe some of you know if/how it can be done?
We have a hifi in our stuio. People often plug their ipods into the aux channel so play their music in the studio.
There is only one computer near the hifi. This guy has now plugged the aux cable into the 'sound out' of his computer. He has also installed BrowserTunes which now means that everyone in the studio can control his iTunes: browse tracks, adjust volume etc from a webpage in their browsers.
This is very cool but means that we can only listen to the music in HIS iTunes library.
Does anyone know of a free app that would enable the whole studio to 'cue up' songs through their browser from their own iTunes libraries. The music would still have to be played through the computer of the guy plugged into the stereo!
Possible or not?

haring your music across computers
If your computer is connected to any other computers over a local network and you're using iTunes 4.5 or later, you can share the music in your library and playlists with up to five of those computers (the other computers need to be in the same subnet as your computer and also running iTunes 4.5 or later). Sharing is intended for personal use only. You can share MP3, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV, AAC, and radio station links; you can't share Audible spoken word content or QuickTime sound files.
1.
Choose iTunes > Preferences, then click the Sharing button at the top of the window.
2.
Select the "Share my music" checkbox, then choose your library or the playlists you want to share.
3.
Type a name for your shared items in the "Shared name" box, and a password if desired. When you're done, click OK to close the preferences window.
The shared name you enter appears in the Source list on any other local computers (in the same subnet) running iTunes and set up to look for shared music. If you select Require Password, users will need to enter that password before they can see your shared music.
You need to leave iTunes open for users on other computers to see your shared libraries and playlists.
use the "help" in itunes for more info

thanks easy_target.
We used to do that before our current set-up. The problem with shared iTunes is that the 1 guy who's mac is connected to the hifi speakers would have to select all the music all the time.
What we want is a system that works like a traditional jukebox. Where each person selcts some song to be played and they all get cued up in the order they were chosen. It needs to be democratic in a 'first come, first served' setting, where everyone can select music from their terminals.

share all your music, then 'look for shared music' on the computer hooked up to the stereo.

yeah, but what he's asking is how to integrate other users' itunes into the browser-driven selection.
sorry, baskerville, i don't know how.

me neither. To be honest I'm not sure it's possible. Although a guy I work with says they used to have a system as described in a big studio he used to work in. Somewhere like Interbrand or something.

Why not copy each persons music into one "super" library, which is what get's hooked up to the speakers?

Could you organize all the shared music into one playlist on his computer then share that playlist and have people access it via the Remote app on their iPods/iPhones/etc?

Buy an Airport Express, plug in audio cable, stream any music in iTunes from any computer on the same network to a single speaker output source (Airport Express).
All for a mere $100 or so.

Just do what I do and wear headphones and listen to what the fuck you want.
