So, i took possession of my new house on friday. Everything is going great. Except for the previous owners thought it would be best to take the entire kitchen with them. Fridge, stove, sink, counters, cabnets...
with this i can deal, because its a simple fix. Get $ back that was being held between two lawyers.the real pisser came when on saturday night, someone broke into to the house and stole all my tools, new lighting fixtures, smoke/carbon testers, stereo and all kinds of other stuff...
there are some real fuckin assholes on this planet.
sorry for ranting.
carry on.

ohshit. sorry. hate to hear that.

that really blows, jim. I'd offer to kill somebody but everyone knows that's an empty threat

what!?!
that sucks ross.
first off, if the papers were signed and nothing was mentioned about them removing or taking the stove, sink, refridge and such then it is ILLEGAL for them to do so. now, your lawyer should be on their ass for either money back (as now you'll have to purchase all new equipment) or getting that stuff back. if i were you i'd go for the credit/cash.
2nd. first thing you should have done was get a locksmith to switch out the locks. i've bought two townhomes and with each comes a key with a 'do not duplicate' message on it cause the keys are owned by the association. with homes i'm told the first thing you do is switch the locks cause the previous owners could have duplicated the keys before they gave the 2 to you that they should have, then all they have to do is come back the next night and steal all your new shit.
have the cops go to their home first, you might find your shit there.
tuff break man.

well your new home can only get better from here on out.

I actually would kill somebody, it doesn't even have to be the actual thieves, I can do it and we can both pretend it is them, that way we feel justified and can reap he rewards of administering true punishment.
just give the word.

shit happens a lot. burglars are always watching/tracking people that move. very easy prey. perhaps you should have made it all less obvious.
also, it could have been hinted to a burglar by the previous owner since you are having legal issues??

To echo what k0na said, my house papers made specific mention of the kitchen appliances and that they would be included in the sale of the house so make sure you go over your paperwork thoroughly to see what you agreed to.
As to the theft, one of the stipulations when I signed for my mortgage was I had to prove homeowners insurance for the entire coming year before they would give me the mortgage. Not sure about your case but that should help you recover your stolen items.
Godspeed and good luck.

i bet it was the old owners.
- prodigalslacker0
that sucks, and i wouldn't be surprised if it did turn out to be the old owners. people are spiteful little hacks sometimes.
- tkmeister0
i agree with ldww.
sorry to hear. i guess if i buy a house, i'd remember to install the security system right away.
- mg330
I know this won't solve the problem, but I hope it will lessen the pain.
- xenicon0
whoever the assholes were you don't want them back- my neighbor put up a fake security camera that...blinks...facing his carport. Discreet but it works- his car hasn't been touched unlike the two previous.
perception can be manipulated.
- mg330
dude, bear traps. When they return and try to sue you for their leg being mangled-to-the-n'th, all you have to say is "So what were you doing on my property again?"
- e-pill0
sorry to hear that...hope you win the lottery today.
- robotron3k0
damn that sucks ross, for sure they WILL be back and you need to be prepaired. when it's easy pickings thieves always return.
- ross0
as for the kitchen stuff, we are getting a chunk of $ because the agreement said the fixtures/appliances come with the house.
as for the robbery, I wouldnt doubt that is was teh sketchy old owner. The house was entered in a way that seemed too familiar for some random burgler...
i can now say, with conviction, that no one will be entering the house in that same way...
btw, the door they entered was to a basement apartment. I put on new deadbolds but they knew the entrances structure wasnt super secure. That entrance is no longer an entrance...
thanks for the support folks.

Dude:
Listen to kona. There is something real fishy here with the prev owners. Did you write into the contract that they could gut your kitchen before leaving? Def tell the cops about this. I bet they have your tools. Too much of a coinsidence here.
